The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant is a skilled professional entrusted with aiding in the coordination, oversight, assessment, and delivery of Occupational Therapy Services to clients across diverse environments, as directed by the overseeing Occupational Therapist.


Qualifications


  • Graduate of an Occupational Therapy school approved by the Council of Medical Education of the A.M.A. in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association or its equivalent
  • Certification as a COTA by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

  • Has at least one year of experience, preferably in a home health or related setting

  • Licensed in applicable state

Responsibilities


  • Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist, assists in evaluation and establishes goals based on the client's current level of functioning and potential for improvement and performs re-evaluations as indicated which are documented on the required form(s)

  • As directed, guides and instructs the client in prescribed therapeutic, self-care, and creative activities that are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning

  • Conducts household management routines based in OT recommendation
  • Consults with the Therapist regarding the outcome of home visits and reports any changes in the client's condition through periodic written summaries
  • Assumes duties deemed appropriate and necessary by the supervising Occupational Therapist

  • Prepares clinical/progress notes on the day of the visit which are incorporated in the clinical record weekly

  • Participates in staff development activities and in-service education

  • Communicates effectively with all those providing care

  • Confirms, on a weekly basis, the scheduling of visits with the DON to coordinate necessary visits with other personnel

  • Able to travel to prospective clients' residences within Miami-Dade and Monroe County
