Chapter Area Lead – Advanced Analytics and Data
Chapter Area Lead – Advanced Analytics and Data
- You are a commercially sharp analytics leader who builds great teams, creates clarity, and turns data into better decisions and customer outcomes.
- We are a leading Business Bank using data, advanced analytics and AI to improve customer experience, banker effectiveness and business performance.
- Together we will build a high-performing advanced analytics capability that delivers foresight and action at scale.
Do work that matters:
CBA is the leading Business Bank in Australia, investing to improve our customer experience to help businesses build a brighter future for Australia. The Advanced Analytics and Data team plays a critical role in this agenda, helping Business Bank leaders understand customers, identify opportunities, improve journeys, personalise engagement, manage risks, and make better decisions.
See yourself in our team:
As a Chapter Area Lead, you are accountable for the capability and performance of analytics practitioners in your team. Chapter areas span multiple business domains and priorities, so chapter area leads need to create clarity, grow the team and capabilities in line with business needs, and deliver consistently strong outcomes.
This role leads one of our largest analytics chapter areas, with 30-40 analytics practitioners across Australia and India. You will partner with senior leaders across the Business Bank, including customer segments, channels, products, and marketing to help improve customer experience, banker effectiveness and business performance.
The work is broad. It includes insights analytics (i.e. descriptive and diagnostic analysis to understand what happened and why) as well as advanced analytics (i.e. predictive and prescriptive analytics to identify what is likely to happen and what action we should take).
We are looking for someone who is ambitious for customers, commercially sharp, technically credible and passionate about developing people. You lead with ownership, create clarity, remove blockers and continuously look for ways to improve how work gets done.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner with senior leaders across the Business Bank to understand strategic priorities and shape a high-value analytics agenda.
- Lead a chapter area of ~30 to 40 advanced analytics practitioners across Australia and India, building capability, performance, engagement and career development.
- Lead high-impact analytical work that improves customer engagement, banker effectiveness, management decision-making and business performance.
- Translate complex analytical insight and foresight into clear recommendations that senior stakeholders can understand, trust and act on.
- Lift the quality, consistency and reusability of analytical work through strong standards, coaching, peer review and modern tooling.
- Lead the adoption of AI-powered tools and modern analytical practices to improve speed, quality and impact.
- Maintain strong data governance, risk and control practices, including data quality, privacy, security, model risk and responsible AI expectations.
- Build a collaborative culture, including strong operating rhythms, clear expectations and effective leadership through your direct reports.
We will be interested in people with:
- Significant experience leading advanced analytics or data science teams, ideally in a large and complex organisation.
- Strong people leadership experience, including leading leaders, building capability, managing performance and developing talent.
- A track record of delivering advanced analytics that improved business decisions, customer outcomes or commercial performance.
- Strong senior stakeholder management, with the ability to influence, challenge and advise business leaders.
- Technical credibility in data-driven analytics (what happened and why) and advanced analytics (what is likely to happen and what action we should take).
- Passion for leading people, upskilling teams and driving high performance.
- Passion for using AI-powered tools to deliver analytical work faster and better.
Technical skills and tools:
- Technical skills: Extensive experience in data-driven decisions(i.e. “what happened; why”) and advanced analytics (i.e. what is likely to happen; what should we do”).
- Tools: Experience with tools/techniques like SQL, Python, Snowflake, AWS, and VS Code – and a passion for using AI tools to work faster and better.
- People leadership: Experience leading large analytical teams and working directly with senior management – ideally in a large organisation.
