Chief Legal Officer

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Legal Officer serves as the organization’s top legal executive, providing strategic guidance, legal counsel, and risk management to support the organization’s mission, operations, and long-term goals. This role oversees all legal matters, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, manages legal risk, and acts as a key advisor to executive leadership and the board of directors.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the principal legal advisor to the CEO, executive team, and board of directors

  • Provide legal oversight for corporate governance, compliance, contracts, labor and employment matters, intellectual property, litigation, and regulatory affairs

  • Develop and lead the organization’s legal strategy to promote and protect its interests.

  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as industry-specific regulations

  • Draft, review, and negotiate high-level contracts, agreements, and legal documents.

  • Manage outside counsel relationships and legal budgets efficiently

  • Lead and develop the in-house legal team; provide mentoring and direction to legal staff.

  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations that affect the organization and advise leadership accordingly

  • Support risk management and crisis response planning in coordination with other departments

  • Maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies and key stakeholders
