Chief Legal Officer & ESG Communications Business Partner
Job Title
Chief Legal Officer & ESG Communications Business PartnerJob Description
Some of the most important conversations in business today are about trust, transparency and long-term impact. As Chief Legal Officer & ESG Communications Business Partner, you will be at the center of those conversations, helping shape how Philips communicates its approach to governance, sustainability, public affairs and responsible business.
Working directly with Marnix van Ginneken, Chief Legal Officer and ESG leader, you will influence enterprise-wide engagement on the issues that matter most to employees, stakeholders and society. This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic counsel, executive communications and storytelling to strengthen alignment, build trust and reinforce Philips' reputation as a purpose-driven health technology leader.
In your role you will:
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive internal communications strategies for the Chief Legal Officer & ESG leader, ensuring all initiatives support Philips’ purpose, business priorities, culture and values.
- Partner with Marnix van Ginneken and relevant Legal, ESG, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Compliance and Foundation stakeholders to keep employees and leaders informed, engaged and aligned on functional and enterprise priorities.
- Create messages, content, talking points, Q&A, presentations and executive narrative for internal channels such as Viva Engage, Global Town Halls, leadership meetings, functional webcasts and sensitive stakeholder updates.
- Support communications that integrate ESG into day-to-day business, with emphasis on sustainable innovation, healthcare access, patient safety, quality, integrity, responsible operations and measurable progress.
- Work in partnership with the Integrated Activation Team to ensure effective communications campaigns are created to support Marnix’s priorities.
- Oversee consistency across communication channels, maintaining a unified and recognizable Philips tone of voice.
- Guide the creation of compelling content across formats, ensuring messaging is credible, business-impact focused, evidence-based and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
- Manage content calendars, editorial schedules and distribution approaches in line with Communications & Brand governance, optimizing reach, engagement and impact while reducing duplication and low-value activity.
- Interact regularly with executives and major stakeholders, using strong negotiation, influencing and cross-functional alignment skills.
- Work on complex issues where the analysis of situations, data, regulation or stakeholder positions requires in-depth knowledge of Philips, governance, sustainability, healthcare and reputation considerations.
- Measure and report on the effectiveness of employee and executive communications, using insights to drive continuous improvement in clarity, trust, engagement and impact.
You're the right fit if you have:
- 8+ years of proven experience in internal and/or external communications combined with business partnering at a very senior, C-suite level within a global international organization, preferably in healthcare, technology, legal, ESG, public affairs or regulated sectors.
- An excitement for working at the forefront of the AI transformation of Communications, both in how content is produced and how is it consumed, and someone who is comfortable and excited about creating and managing AI-enabled communication workflows.
- Master’s Degree in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, Brand Management, Public Affairs, Sustainability, Law or equivalent experience. Philips specifically invites candidates with equivalent experience to apply.
- Strong understanding of legal, compliance, governance, ESG, sustainability reporting, public affairs and reputation dynamics is a strong asset.
- Deep ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a subject matter expert and guiding leaders through change, sensitive topics and ambiguity.
- Strategic mindset combined with hands-on execution; you are flexible and adaptable to changing realities and can move quickly from counsel to content delivery.
- Excellent judgment on confidentiality, approvals, legal privilege, disclosure sensitivity, stakeholder expectations and the difference between internal alignment and external positioning.
- Positive energy and genuine enjoyment of the work, contributing to team atmosphere and helping colleagues focus on high-impact priorities.
- Ability to support, coach and develop teams and partners, fostering consistency, common goals and clear ways of working across business partnering, editorial governance and integrated activation.
