About the RoleThe Department of Internal Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications for Chief of Gastroenterology, an exciting leadership opportunity within a nationally recognized academic cancer center dedicated to advancing multidisciplinary cancer care, translational research, and innovation in gastrointestinal oncology.
We are seeking a dynamic, board-certified therapeutic gastroenterologist with advanced endoscopy training to lead and expand the Gastroenterology Program. This tenure-track academic appointment offers the opportunity to shape the clinical, academic, and scientific vision of a growing division focused on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies and complications related to oncologic therapies.
The successful candidate will work closely with GI Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to drive program growth, strengthen translational research initiatives, and advance exceptional patient-centered care. This role is ideal for a physician leader passionate about strategic growth, mentorship, innovation, and advancing the future of GI oncology care.
What You’ll Do
• Provide strategic clinical and administrative leadership for the Division of Gastroenterology
• Oversee recruitment, retention, mentorship, and professional development of faculty and advanced practice providers
• Develop and implement strategic plans supporting clinical growth, operational excellence, and academic advancement
• Collaborate closely with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary oncology teams to strengthen GI oncology services and patient care pathways
• Lead initiatives focused on expanding Gastroenterology services and enhancing access to advanced therapeutic endoscopy
• Maintain an active clinical practice focused on the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal malignancies and complications related to cancer therapies
• Perform advanced endoscopic procedures including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary oncology environment
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborative treatment planning initiatives
• Foster collaborative translational and clinical research initiatives across departments and institutions
• Support development of innovative GI oncology and advanced endoscopy research programs
• Contribute to clinical trials, scholarly activities, and academic publications
• Advance the academic mission through mentorship, teaching, and faculty development
• Represent the division at institutional, regional, and national academic meetings
• Teach and supervise fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and trainees
• Foster a collaborative culture grounded in mentorship, academic growth, and continuous learning
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration aligned with High Reliability Organization principles emphasizing excellence, accountability, innovation, and patient safety
About the Department
The Gastroenterology and GI Oncology programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center provide highly specialized multidisciplinary care for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies and complex oncologic conditions. Faculty collaborate closely across GI Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Interventional Radiology, and translational research programs to deliver innovative and coordinated cancer care.

What You’ll Bring
• MD, DO, or equivalent degree with Board Certification in Gastroenterology
• Advanced endoscopy training with expertise in EUS and ERCP
• Demonstrated leadership experience within academic medicine, gastroenterology, or multidisciplinary oncology programs
• Commitment to multidisciplinary, patient-centered GI oncology care
• Strong clinical expertise in therapeutic gastroenterology and management of GI malignancies
• Passion for mentorship, faculty development, and academic leadership
• Interest in translational research, clinical trials, and innovative GI oncology initiatives

Qualifications:
Required Education and ExperienceLicense and Certification Requirement
1. License to practice as a Medical Doctor in the State of New York or License to practice as a dentist in the State of New York as required for the area of expertise.
2. Possession of a valid medical specialty certificate in area of expertise
Education and Experience
Medical Doctor degree or Doctor of Dental Science degree as required for the area of expertise, and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in the area of expertise including six (6) months in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
