CIS Application Support Engineer (Customer/1 + COBOL) – Remote – 12+ Months
This is a remote position.<\/p>
We\u2019re looking for an experienced CIS Application Support Engineer<\/b> with hands\u2011on expertise in Customer/1 (C/1)<\/b> and COBOL<\/b> to support, maintain, and enhance a legacy Customer Information System for a major utility. This role focuses on application maintenance, defect resolution, batch job support, and small enhancements that keep the CIS stable and running.<\/span> If you\u2019ve worked in utility billing systems and still enjoy solving problems in COBOL, this is a long\u2011term, stable contract where your experience truly matters.<\/span> Support and maintain the Customer/1 CIS application<\/span> Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in COBOL, batch jobs, and related components<\/span> Analyze billing, metering, payments, collections, and customer workflows<\/span> Implement small enhancements, fixes, and logic updates<\/span> Work with business users to understand issues and translate them into technical solutions<\/span> Ensure system stability, data integrity, and accurate billing operations<\/span> Participate in on\u2011call or after\u2011hours support rotations (if required)<\/span> Hands\u2011on experience with Customer/1 (C/1)<\/b> \u2014 required<\/span> Strong COBOL programming and maintenance skills<\/b><\/span> Experience supporting CIS systems in utilities (electric, gas, water)<\/span> Understanding of billing cycles, meter reads, payments, adjustments, and customer account logic<\/span> Ability to troubleshoot complex legacy code and batch processes<\/span> Strong analytical skills and comfort working independently<\/span> Bonus: experience with mainframe environments, JCL, DB2, or related legacy tech<\/span> Remote<\/b> (US\u2011based)<\/span> 12+ month contract<\/b> with likely extensions<\/span> Start ASAP<\/span> Part time option is also available.<\/span>
