Claims Specialist - Bodily Injury

Job Description

This Bodily Injury Claims Specialist handles bodily injury and general liability claims through their life-cycle including - but not limited to - investigation, evaluation, claim resolution and coverage analysis. The purpose of this position is to provide service to agents, insureds and others to ensure claims resolve accurately and timely. Work is performed under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, determine coverage, evaluate the amount of loss, analyze legal liability, and make payments in accordance with coverage, damage, and liability determination, under general guidance from leadership, injury claims
  • Analyze and interpret policy coverage and determine liability and damages
  • Negotiate claim settlements in accordance with company procedures and within authority limits
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to all relevant parties on a claim including but not limited to insureds, claimants, agents, and attorneys
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate adjuster’s license(s) as required
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of outside counsel under general guidance from leadership
  • Travel to participate in training, meetings, investigations, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
  • Handle confidential information according to Company standards and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Drive an automobile, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain a driving record consistent with the Company’s underwriting guidelines for coverage
  • Maintain punctual attendance according to an assigned work schedule at a Company approved work location

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent through a combination of education, training, and/or experience is required
  • A minimum of two years of experience of any combination as a Branch Claims Representative 1, Branch Claims Representative 2, or a similar job is required
  • 5+ years of experience adjusting third-party liability claims
  • Ability to read, interpret, and react to documents such as insurance policies, procedure manuals, and legal documents
  • Ability to assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment
  • Ability to communicate, in both verbal and written formats, in a polite, clear, concise, and accurate way
  • Problem resolution and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to write reports and compose correspondence
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with a diverse set of individuals
  • Ability to organize assigned work
  • Ability to maintain a professional image
  • Aptitude for learning and applying medical terminology associated with assigned claims
  • Aptitude for learning and following proper court procedures
  • Aptitude for learning to interpret and properly react to legal documents

Compensation

We are dedicated to fair and competitive total compensation package that supports the wellbeing and success of our associates. In addition to this, we offer other components like bonus opportunities. For this position, the anticipated annualized starting base pay range is: $75,000 - $95,000.
