Clerk, Legal (1 Year Contract)
The Opportunity
The law clerk/paralegal will be part of the Definity legal department and will be responsible for all clerk/paralegal duties of the litigation area. The successful candidate will work under the direction and guidance of approximately 2 lawyers and will assist with tasks as assigned, including the following:
What to Expect
- General file handling and practice management for litigation matters.
- Identifying and requesting documentation from client, counsel, or other parties.
- Management of all productions and undertakings, including organizing, indexing, etc.
- Review of documentation and preparation of summaries.
- Preparation of Affidavits of Records.
- Preparation of pleadings.
- Drafting correspondence to clients, counsel, third parties, experts, etc.
- Preparation of expert briefs.
- Providing input into the procedures and practices.
- Working within a paperless environment.
- Performance other duties as required of a law clerk/paralegal.
What you Bring
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a law clerk/paralegal as part of a team practicing insurance litigation in Alberta or personal injury experience.
- Knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court.
- Strong document management skills with the ability to learn and utilize Definity’s various software programs such as TeamConnect and ACL.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Outlook and all MS Office applications.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and execute tasks in a quality manner with strong turnaround time.
- High degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard privileged and confidential information.
- Great attention to detail with proof reading skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities.
- Team player, adaptable to a changing environment.
- Ability to work in a paperless environment.
Salary Range: $59,300 - $109,200
High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.
