The Role & Key Responsibilities:
As Client KYC Specialist/Manager, you will be responsible for:
1. KYC Onboarding & Reviews
- Perform end-to-end KYC due diligence for new and existing clients (corporates, trusts, funds, SPVs).
- Identify and verify UBOs, directors, shareholders, and authorised persons.
- Assess complex ownership structures, including cross-border African entities.
- Apply internal risk rating methodology to determine client risk profiles.
2. Africa & South Africa Regulatory Expertise
- Apply knowledge of South African FICA requirements to onboarding and refresh processes.
- Interpret AML/KYC obligations across key African jurisdictions (e.g. Mauritius, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, UAE-linked Africa structures).
- Identify jurisdiction-specific risks:
- High-risk / FATF-listed countries
- PEP exposure
- Corruption and sanctions risk
3. Periodic Reviews & Remediation
- Conduct periodic KYC reviews in line with client risk cycles.
- Support remediation exercises to address documentation and data gaps.
- Proactively follow up with clients and internal stakeholders to resolve outstanding items.
- Escalate overdue cases and high-risk issues in a timely manner.
4. Screening & Risk Analysis
- Conduct sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening.
- Analyse and assess negative news findings and determine materiality.
- Identify financial crime risks including fraud, tax evasion, bribery, corruption, and money laundering.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with Relationship Managers, Compliance, and Legal teams on KYC requirements.
- Provide clear guidance on documentation standards and regulatory expectations.
- Support internal audits and regulatory inspections.
6. Governance & Controls
- Ensure adherence to:
- Internal KYC/AML policies
- FATF recommendations
- Local regulations (e.g. FSC Mauritius, FSCA South Africa)
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready KYC files.

- Strong AML/KYC knowledge with focus on Africa jurisdictions

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in law, Finance, Business, or related field
- 3–5+ years KYC/AML experience in financial services
- Hands-on experience with South African and African clients
- Strong knowledge of AML regulations and KYC best practices
Preferred
- Professional certifications (e.g. CAMS, ICA)
- Experience with offshore structures (Mauritius, BVI, Cayman)
- Exposure to fund administration or banking environments
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- KYC turnaround times (onboarding & reviews)
- Quality and completeness of KYC files
- Timely completion of periodic reviews
- Reduction in outstanding remediation items
- Accurate identification and escalation of high-risk cases
