About the Role

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a Clinical Instructor in Surgical Pathology — a physician at a pivotal stage in their career who is eager to deepen diagnostic expertise while helping shape the next generation of pathologists. This position will begin as a Clinical Fellow and, following a defined evaluation period and successful approval, will transition to Clinical Instructor within the Anatomic Pathology service.

Designed as a purposeful bridge to faculty, this role offers a structured pathway for highly skilled senior fellows seeking to advance into academic pathology. The successful candidate will balance high-level diagnostic practice with meaningful educational engagement in a collaborative, mission-driven environment dedicated to excellence in cancer care, research, and medical education.

What You’ll Do

• Review and sign out surgical pathology cases across subspecialties such as Breast/GYN or Gastrointestinal Pathology
• Deliver high-quality diagnostic expertise in collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical teams
• Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows through lectures, case-based learning, and hands-on supervision
• Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, departmental grand rounds, and trainee educational forums
• Support curriculum development, trainee evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Pathology residency program
• Develop increasing autonomy in diagnostic sign-out responsibilities within a supportive academic framework
• Refine proficiency in gross examination and specimen evaluation
• Contribute to institutional committees, quality initiatives, and educational program development
• Engage in self-directed scholarly and professional development activities
• Foster a culture of collaboration, academic rigor, compassion, and excellence aligned with High Reliability Organization principles

Schedule & Call Responsibilities

• Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility based on clinical and educational responsibilities
• Rotating weeknight and weekend call responsibilities initiated following approximately six months of training and attainment of privileges
• Ongoing support and collaboration with attending pathologists throughout the training and transition process

What You’ll Bring

• MD or DO from an accredited institution
Completion of ACGME-accredited residency training in Pathology
• Board eligible or certified in Anatomic Pathology
• Eligibility for or possession of a New York State medical license
• Eligibility to obtain medical staff privileges at Roswell Park

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

License Requirement
Must be licensed or have a limited permit to practice medicine in the State of New York.

Education and Experience
1. Medical Doctor degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time post-graduate training in an approved residency program approved by the American Certifying Board in a specialty recognized by the Board; or
2. Doctor of Osteopathy degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time post-graduate training in an approved residency program approved by the American Certifying Board in a specialty recognized by the Board; or
3. Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time post-graduate training in an approved residency program approved by the American Certifying Board in a specialty recognized by the Board.

NOTE:
1. For appointments in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited fellowship, license or limited permit to practice medicine in the State of New York is not required.
2. Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
