Job Summary
HMH has an opening for a CNC Lathe Machinist in Houston, TX. The Machinist position requires skills developed through formal training or work experience, high attention to detail and safety. You will work within established procedures and guidelines with limited ability to modify approach and must complete assigned tasks with a moderate degree of supervision.
Candidates will not only be interviewed but may be required to demonstrate key CNC operating skills and/or knowledge including how to use measuring equipment, set tools, work offsets, and read programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform operations including turning, facing, boring, drilling, threading, grooving, and other lathe operations as required.
- Experience with small/large diameter or long-length work (steady rest/follow rest), and tight tolerances.
- Must be competent with G & M codes, feeds and speeds, to edit programs as needed.
- Perform work in compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality expectations while supporting a production schedule
- Execute daily priorities and duties as defined by the supervisor or area lead
- Use and maintain measuring equipment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, depth gauges, etc).
- Conduct in-process and final inspection; document results and report nonconformities.
- Inspect and ensure all dimensions are within print specifications and report any non-conformities
- The employee must regularly lift, push, pull and/or move up to 30 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to apply basic written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic math and basic PC skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, work orders and part drawings.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to setup and run with little to no supervision.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Safely operate shop equipment such as overhead crane/forklift where applicable (or ability to become certified by in-house training).
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment.
- Demonstrate unwavering commitment to HMH Values, Compliance, Integrity and HSSE.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years as a CNC lathe machinist.
Desired Characteristics
- 5+ years of experience setting up, editing, and operating CNC lathes to produce high-quality parts.
- Advanced knowledge of cutting tools, processes, hand tools and measuring equipment
- Experience of other CNC machines (CNC mill, CNC live tooling)
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and adherence to processes and policies
Additional Information
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, now or in the future, without employer sponsorship for employment visa status
- No relocation assistance
- 6:00AM – 2:30PM Monday through Friday (with overtime as required – overtime is up to 4:30PM), some weekends from 6:00AM – 12:00PM.
- Semi-climate-controlled machine shop.
