Commercial Finance Analyst

What's the role?

The role As a Commercial Finance Analyst within our Editorial Commercial Finance team, you will partner directly with the business owners of the editorial cost base of News Corp Australia.

Reporting to the Commercial Finance Manager within a dedicated team of four, you will play an integral role in ensuring our editorial investment aligns with strategic directions to drive audience growth efficiently and deliver long-term profitability. Your core purpose is to support key business stakeholders and managing editors by delivering efficient budget management, standardised high-quality reporting, and rigorous financial analysis to empower informed business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own the end-to-end budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial planning processes for your editorial portfolio.

  • Execute core month-end activities, including preparing and posting accurate journal entries and accruals.

  • Track and analyse monthly variances between actuals and budgets/forecasts, providing clear explanations of the underlying drivers.

  • Work closely with editorial stakeholders to provide the financial data and clarity needed for day-to-day commercial decisions.

  • Monitor expenditure lines to help stakeholders track spending and identify potential risks or cost-saving opportunities.

  • Provide flexible analytical support and complete ad-hoc tasks or data requests as required by the finance and editorial teams.

Who are you?

  • CA/CPA qualified.

  • 2+ years experience in a similar role.

  • Strong commercial acumen & professional accounting competency.

  • Excellent financial acumen, with experience in cost management, and partnering & influencing.

  • Strong analytical, communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strategic thinker and self-starter with a commercial approach to business and the ability to manage competing deadlines
