JOB PURPOSE
The Communications Specialist supports the development, coordination, and execution of external communications for the Company. This role is heavily focused on professional writing, editing, and content development to ensure communications are clear, engaging, accurate, and aligned with the Company’s brand and messaging standards. This role also supports Public Relations and Media Relations efforts.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining a wide variety of written external and marketing communications and materials, including but not limited to news releases, story pitches, photo captions, and other public relations communications, as well as the occasional internal communications as they tie into external messaging. In addition, writing assignments may include leadership messaging, blogs, newsletters, presentations, scripts, training materials, marketing collateral, website content, email and social media communications. This role requires understanding and experience with storytelling, as well as public relations and media relations principles. This role works with internal constituents as well as external subjects and subject matter experts to create stories and/or translate complex information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging while maintaining consistency in tone, style, and brand identity.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
• Writes, edits, proofreads, and maintains organizational communications, documents, forms, templates, presentations, and materials
• Develops professional written communications for employees, leaders, brokers, employers, members, providers, and external partners
• Creates and edits internal communications including announcements, leadership messaging, newsletters, policy updates, talking points, and training materials
• Supports the development and maintenance of website content, social media messaging, marketing collateral, and digital communications
• Ensures all written materials are accurate, audience-appropriate, grammatically correct, and aligned with Company brand standards
• Coordinates communication projects from concept through review, approval, production, and distribution with oversight of the department’s Director and approval from internal clients
• Acts as a brand steward, ensuring consistency in messaging, tone, voice, and visual identity across all communications
• Collaborate with department leaders and subject matter experts to gather information to create clear stories, blogs or other written communication materials
• Assists with the creation and distribution of newsletters and other recurring communications
• As needed, supports communication efforts related to organizational initiatives, projects, training, events, and change management activities as they impact external audiences
• Conducts research to identify communication trends, audience needs, and opportunities for process or messaging improvements
• Plans, coordinates, and assists with in-person events, campaigns, and outreach efforts
• Supports printing, production, and distribution efforts for communication and marketing materials
• Coordinates timelines, reviews, approvals, and deliverables for communication projects
• Works efficiently and diligently to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Contributes to workflow improvements and communication process efficiencies
• Assists with monitoring project expenses, invoices, and vendor coordination as assigned
• Collaborates with creative, marketing, and operational teams to develop effective communication materials and resources
• Maintains confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive organizational communications and projects
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance
• Consistently demonstrates compliance with HIPAA regulations, professional conduct, and ethical practice
• Works to encourage and promote Company culture throughout the organization
• Other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred
• Two or more years of professional communications, public relations and media relations, writing, marketing, or related experience preferred
• Strong professional writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills required
• Ability to write for multiple audiences and adapt tone/style appropriately
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photo Shop, InDesign, DreamWeaver and Illustrator)
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, SharePoint, Planner, Teams, Outlook and OneNote)
• Health Care industry experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate amount of walking, sitting, and writing. Moderate to significant amount of stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with day-to-day events in the execution of job duties. Needs flexibility and adaptability to change. Candidate must be self-disciplined and a self-starter and able to work independently with a flexible work schedule. Must be able to drive a vehicle and daytime/overnight travel as required.
