Mesa County Public Health was formed in 1948 as a political subdivision of the State. We provide a wide range of public and environmental health services to Mesa County residents and, in some programs, the region.

JOB SUMMARY
Manage activities related to community health initiatives that lead to sustainable outcomes to improve quality of life for Mesa County Residents. Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide array of people, including local partnerships with key decision makers. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as demonstrated experience facilitating groups. Needs to have exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required.

  • Lead a collaborative process to achieve large-scale systemic change to address community-wide issues.

  • Align agency and community work to ensure the work is rooted in addressing the social determinants of health (economic stability, education, health care and access, social and community context, and neighborhood and built environment).

  • Serve as a liaison to a variety of community service agencies; develop collaborative partnerships as part of health promotion activities; coordinate community groups to implement health priority strategies.

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of grant deliverables as required by community-level grants currently housed at Mesa County Public Health. As experience is gained, the position will be responsible for greater roles in assuring all required activities and deliverables for the grant contracts are completed and documented in the specified timeframe.

  • Assist in writing grant proposals, reports, concept papers, and other materials to obtain funding and buy-in from the community.

  • Be a champion for Mesa County’s Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) as a basis for prioritizing resources, decision-making, and funding.

  • Work as part of a team to develop, implement and evaluate public health-related issues, community projects, presentations, trainings, and contracts.

  • Facilitate groups in a variety of focus areas by guiding vision and strategy, building public will, and aligning activities.

  • Understand language needs for community members contributing to projects and coalitions. Prepare for translation or interpretation needs.

  • Create digital and printed content to support health promotion activities.

  • Coordinate with the Communication and Marketing team on multimedia campaigns and other large-scale communication projects.

NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in emergency planning and response activities.

  • Participates in agency-wide activities that may include strategic planning, quality improvement, and/or staff development, as appropriate.

  • Completes necessary training through FEMA, including Incident Command Structure (ICS) courses.

  • When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by County leadership, employees may be required to work as part of a National Incident Management System (NIMS).

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience

  • At least one year of experience in a relevant role

OR

  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

  • A valid Colorado driver’s license with a responsible driving record.

Computer and Technology

  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications including, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Advanced knowledge and ability with Google Applications including Gmail and Drive.

  • Experience with graphic design or content creation platforms like Adobe Photoshop, Piktochart, or Canva.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

  • Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.

  • May be exposed to communicable diseases and infections.
