Competency Restoration Education Specialist Lead (62062)
Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is seeking a Competency Restoration Education Specialist Lead to lead and support a team of competency education specialists in providing high-quality competency restoration services to clients. This role ensures adherence to state guidelines and standards, maintains accurate records, and supports audit compliance goals. In addition to leadership responsibilities, you will maintain a caseload of clients referred for competency restoration services. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related human services field, along with two years of experience in mental health or human services. Excellent communication and organizational skills, a trauma-informed approach, and a commitment to teamwork are essential. Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are strongly preferred, and experience working with criminal justice referrals is a plus. Schedule. This position will work Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and is eligible for a hybrid model that allows for a mix of remote and in-office work, with an expectation of being in the office two days per week and working from home three days. This schedule may be adjusted based on training, client, or community needs.
Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.
- $22.04 - $33.07 per hour
Bilingual Language Differential Pay. Employees who successfully pass a language assessment are eligible to receive bilingual differential pay. This differential is provided as a fixed amount of $3,000 per calendar year, paid on a bi‑weekly basis across 26 pay periods, and prorated based on hire date and full‑time equivalency (FTE). Eligibility and payment are subject to the language requirements of the position and the employee’s demonstrated proficiency in the language.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate with manager to develop, implement, and maintain a training and onboarding process for role specific skills of Competency Restoration Education Specialists.
- Provide administrative support and serve as back up to the manager for collaborative process steps of working with the state referring entities and external community partners. Support timely contacts as consistent with contract specifications. Assist with organization and assignment of referrals from the state to meet contractual timeframes.
- Provide organization support to Competency Restoration Education Specialists to support timely email communications and monthly report filing with external partners.
- Attend mandatory quarterly BHA meetings.
- Train Competency Restoration Education Specialists on Competency Restoration Curriculum including leadership in the creation of new ideas and formats to present material to clients.
- Provide administrative support to assist the Competency Restoration Education Specialist staff with learning and comprehending the contractual requirements for the BHA grant.
- Provide administrative support to assist the Competency Restoration Education Specialists with charting and coding compliance.
- Participate in and provide expertise related to Competency Restoration Education requirements to QI and IT to support process development to support audit compliance goals.
- Support department by acting in team lead role. Provide role specific support and coaching to competency restoration education specialists as determined by manager and team needs. Provide feedback to manager in support of HR processes, including performance management reviews.
- Maintain a caseload of clients participating in competency restoration education services. Responsibilities include:
- Assist people with mental illnesses to attain competency for court proceedings by providing support live education and intervention services. Outreach persons referred to Restoration Services at Aurora MHC, facilitate and teach clients Restoration Curriculum, and work together with State and Local Stakeholders on behalf of the client.
- Provide Restoration Services in individual and group setting to teens, and adults of all ages.
- Teach standardized competency restoration curriculum to clients.
- Provide instruction on basic legal knowledge and rational decision making with the goal of increasing both the client’s factual knowledge and rational comprehension of the legal proceedings.
- Unite client to resource services that address their unique barriers to competency.
- Complete monthly reporting forms that are filed with the court.
- Interact with and communicates with other providers including external referral agencies.
- Document provision of services provided to clients in a timely manner.
- Complete outreach services to engage clients in competency restoration services.
- When requested, provide court testimony related to restoration education services provided.
- Monitor and coordinate care for assigned clients in partnership with the other members of the client’s care team.
