Job Title: Compliance Specialist

Department: Banking

FLSA: Exempt

General Function: The Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that Midwest Heritage adheres to all applicable federal and state regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices. This position supports the VP of Compliance and Audit in the day-to-day operations of the compliance program, including monitoring, reporting, training, and assisting in regulatory filings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Department Procedures - Assist in creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for the compliance department.

  • Regulatory Compliance Monitoring Program – Complete risk-based compliance monitoring to ensure Midwest Heritage maintains compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations and laws. This includes, but is not limited to, loan file review, HMDA data verification, flood, deposit product change in terms, and CRA.

  • Training & Awareness – Assist in development and delivery of compliance training programs to employees to ensure they understand regulatory requirements and the bank’s compliance policies. Additionally, keep management and other bank personnel informed of new regulatory requirements or changes to existing regulations.

  • Compliance Reporting – Prepare regular compliance reports for Compliance Committee documenting the Regulatory Compliance Monitoring Program.

  • Company-Wide Compliance Procedures & Processes – Assist with formulating and updating bank policies and procedures to maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations and laws.

  • Regulatory Examination & Audit Support – Support the VP of Compliance and Audit in preparing for and completion of regulatory examinations and audits.

  • Marketing – In rotation with the VP of Compliance and Audit, review marketing material for regulatory compliance.

  • Bank Secrecy Act – serves as backup to AVP Compliance in their absence for Bank Secrecy Act duties, including CTR and SAR filing, review of 314a reports, Prime alerts

  • Member of the Compliance Committee.

  • Special projects, as assigned, and serves as backup to VP of Compliance and Audit in their absence.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient computer skills. Microsoft Office preferred (Outlook, Power Point, Excel and Word.)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and interact with people in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Strong detail orientation including the ability to review forms for accuracy and completeness.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

  • Minimum Experience: Two plus years of related experience (banking experience required).

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is classified as sedentary/light and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time.

  • Visual requirements include ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: sitting for long periods, talking (in person and by telephone), hearing and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

  • The duties of this position are normally performed in a general office setting. This is a fast-paced work environment.

  • There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

PC with Microsoft Office programs.
