Role Synopsis
The Contract Management Lead is accountable for enhancing value, performance, compliance, and risk management across the full contract lifecycle. The role serves as the primary post-award contract management authority, ensuring contracts are effectively operationalized, governed, and optimized to deliver business objectives while maintaining compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
The role primarily manages a portfolio of Upstream/Wells contracts, alongside selected strategic and high-complexity agreements across the broader energy portfolio. It plays a critical interface role between Category Management, Sourcing, and Business collaborators, ensuring contracts are fully aligned with category strategies, sourcing intent, and enterprise value objectives.
In close partnership with Category Management teams, the role translates category strategies into executable contract outcomes, enabling supplier performance optimization, commercial effectiveness, demand alignment, and supply base efficiency.
The role also advances digital contract management capabilities through CLM platforms, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions, contributing to procurement transformation and category-led value creation.
Key Accountabilities
1. End-to-End Contract Lifecycle Management
Lead and manage contracts through all lifecycle stages including implementation, execution, performance management, amendments, renewals, extensions, and close-out.
Own post-award contract management activities for strategic, core, and operational contracts aligned to category strategies.
Ensure seamless transition from sourcing and category-led award decisions into operational contract execution.
Lead contract kick-offs to align collaborators on obligations, governance, HSSE requirements, supplier performance expectations, and category objectives.
Ensure contract documentation is accurate, complete, and audit ready.
Manage achievements, deliverables, and contractual commitments across the lifecycle.
2. Contract Execution & Operational Management
Monitor contract utilization, spend, and commercial performance against category and business objectives.
Manage contract pricebooks, catalogues, buying channels, and procurement compliance.
Ensure operational execution supports category segmentation, preferred supplier strategies, and demand management principles.
Resolve invoice, payment, and operational issues with Procurement Operations, P2P, Finance, and Suppliers.
Maintain contract data integrity across ERP/CLM systems (SAP, Ariba, Sirion).
3. Commercial Value Delivery & Category Value Realization
Drive realization of category-led value outcomes across the contract portfolio.
Support Category Managers in delivering cost savings, value optimization, and supply base efficiency.
Manage pricing mechanisms including indexation, rebates, discounts, VMI, consignment, and cost optimization levers.
Identify and mitigate contract value leakage at both contract and category level.
Provide insights on supplier competitiveness, pricing trends, and performance gaps to Category teams.
Enable category initiatives such as consolidation, standardization, and demand optimization.
4. Risk Management, Governance & Compliance
Identify and manage commercial, financial, operational, supplier, HSSE, regulatory, and digital risks.
Ensure compliance with Contract Management Policy, DOFA, and category governance frameworks.
Support internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of findings.
Maintain governance reporting supporting both contract and category oversight.
5. Supplier Relationship & Category Performance Management
Partner closely with Category Managers and CAMs to manage supplier relationships as part of category strategy execution.
Support Strategic Business Reviews (SBRs), Performance Review Meetings (PRMs), and Operational Review Meetings (ORMs).
Monitor supplier critical metrics, SLAs, and compliance aligned to category scorecards.
Provide structured supplier performance insights to inform category strategy evolution and sourcing decisions.
Support supplier development and improvement initiatives aligned to category priorities.
6. Contract Change Management
Manage contract amendments, renewals, extensions, scope changes, and terminations in alignment with category direction.
Ensure commercial, operational, and risk impacts are assessed at both contract and category level.
Coordinate approvals through DOFA, governance bodies, and Category/Sourcing collaborators.
Implement approved changes across systems and operational teams.
7. Category, Sourcing & Demand Integration
Act as a key execution partner to Category Management, ensuring sourcing strategies are embedded into contract execution.
Translate category strategies into contract structures, pricing models, and governance frameworks.
Provide Category teams with insights on contract performance, supplier behavior, and market dynamics.
Support demand management and prioritization through structured intake and case management processes.
Participating in sourcing events and supplier selection activities where required.
Enable category initiatives including standardization, consolidation, and supply base optimization.
8. Digital, Data & Continuous Improvement
Apply CLM platforms) to track obligations, compliance, and performance.
Ensure high-quality contract data to enable category analytics and decision-making.
Develop dashboards and reporting (e.g., Power BI) for contract and category performance tracking.
Support digital transformation initiatives including automation and AI-enabled contract analytics.
Drive continuous improvement in contract-to-category integration processes.
9. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Act as trusted advisor to Business, Category, and Procurement collaborators.
Influence cross-functional decisions to align contract execution with category and business outcomes.
Support capability development and mentoring within CLM and Category teams.
Promote a culture of governance, accountability, and category-led value delivery.
Essential Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, Law, Supply Chain, Finance, Commerce, Engineering, or related field.
Professional certifications such as CIPS, CPSM, or PMP are advantageous.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
12–15 years of experience in Procurement, Contracting, Strategic Sourcing, or Commercial Management within the Energy sector.
5–7 years of experience in Upstream/Wells contract environments (drilling, completions, well services, intervention services, rig operations).
Strong experience in Contract Lifecycle Management with deep integration into Category Management execution and value delivery.
Proven experience managing high-value, complex, multi-regional contracts aligned to category strategies.
Strong expertise in contract governance, risk management, compliance, commercial optimization, and supplier performance management.
Experience working closely with Category Managers to deliver category-led value outcomes.
Experience in global, matrixed organizations.
Working knowledge of CLM tools (e.g., Sirion), ERP systems (SAP, Ariba), and procurement platforms.
Experience supporting digital transformation, analytics, or continuous improvement initiatives.
Desirable Criteria
Experience across categories such as Wells, MRO, Refining, HSSE, Facilities Management, Digital & Technology, Capital Projects, Engineered Equipment, and Site Services.
Exposure to category strategy development, segmentation, and supply base optimization.
Experience in complex negotiations and dispute resolution.
Knowledge of category management principles and industry-specific commercial models.
Experience with analytics tools such as Power BI and spend analytics platforms.
Experience in large-scale global energy or industrial organizations.
Additional Information
Strong working knowledge of procurement and contract systems including SAP, SAP Ariba, CLM platforms, and integrated P2P systems.
Experience using contract analytics, spending analytics, and Power BI to drive insights, reporting, and value realization.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for analysis and collaborator reporting.

Business Contract Owners (CAMs), Global & Regional Category Managers, Category Delivery Teams, Sourcing Teams, Procurement Operations & P2P, Finance, HSSE, Legal & Contracting Advisors, Supplier Relationship Management Teams, Suppliers, and Project/Operations Leadership Teams.Strong commitment to governance, compliance, ethical standards, and HSSE principles.
Ability to work across global time zones, including occasional out-of-hours engagement.
Role is critical to enabling category-led value delivery, procurement transformation, operational excellence, and sustainable commercial performance across the contract portfolio.
