Counselling Lecturer
Permanent, 37 Hours Per Week
You understand the responsibility of counselling practice. Now help students develop the knowledge, skill and self-awareness to do it safely.
Good counselling training is about more than learning theory.
Students need to understand ethics, boundaries, listening, reflection, supervision and the professional responsibility that comes with supporting another person. They need space to practise, question, develop confidence and understand themselves as future practitioners.
As our Counselling Lecturer, you’ll help create that learning.
You’ll teach across counselling programmes, supporting learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for safe and ethical practice. You’ll bring your own counselling experience into the classroom, helping students connect theory with the real expectations of the profession.
You may already be an experienced lecturer. You may be a qualified counsellor who has supported others through supervision, mentoring, training or group work and now wants to move further into education. What matters is that you can bring professional credibility, care and clarity to the learning environment.

Counselling education can be transformational.
A student begins to understand the difference between listening and really hearing. Someone recognises the importance of boundaries. A learner connects theory with practice for the first time. Another starts to see the kind of practitioner they could become.
At Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll help create those moments.
You’ll work with students who are developing the knowledge, confidence and self-awareness needed for counselling and helping roles. You’ll support them to think carefully, practise safely and understand the ethical responsibilities of the profession.
You’ll join a college that values professional education and the development of people. You’ll have the opportunity to bring your counselling experience into teaching, work with a supportive curriculum team and help learners move towards further study, professional development and meaningful work with others.
This is a role for someone who understands that counselling training needs both care and challenge. It requires warmth, structure, honesty and professional judgement. Most of all, it requires someone who can help learners grow safely.
