About the role | Mō te tūranga:
We are seeking a reliable Cremation Technician to join Fond Farewells in Christchurch in a permanent part-time role, working Tuesday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:00pm. In this position, you will play an important part in the cremation and after-death care process, helping to ensure services are carried out with dignity, accuracy, and professionalism.
Working as part of a close knit and supportive team, you will be responsible for the safe operation of cremation equipment, preparation and handling of remains, and associated documentation and dispatch processes. You will contribute to maintaining smooth operational flow while upholding high standards of care, compliance, and attention to detail at every stage.
This role suits someone who is practical, calm under pressure, and comfortable working in a structured, hands on environment where respect, precision, and consistency are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate cremation equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
- Carry out start-up, monitoring, and shutdown of cremation processes.
- Prepare, handle, and process remains following documented operational requirements.
- Receive, record, and dispatch items in line with workplace procedures.
- Package and send remains to clients accurately and in a timely manner.
- Respond to client requests and operational tasks in a prompt and professional manner.
- Support general site operations and assist team members as required.

To be successful in this role you need to have:
- Previous experience in an operational, technical, or similar hands-on role is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow strict procedures.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team.
- Flexible, positive attitude with willingness to support a varied operational environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
- Basic computer skills for accurate record keeping and documentation.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
