CW Safety Officer

Purpose of the position

The purpose of this position is to ensure the effective implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) practices during site operations, project execution, and specifically in the erection and commissioning of EOT cranes.

This role involves acting as a advisor to project managers, site engineers, supervisors, and workmen by providing expert guidance on HSE practices and compliance. The position ensures that all site activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with statutory regulations, company standards, and best industry practices.

The role is also responsible for the implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement of the Company’s Business Management System (BMS) at project sites. This includes risk assessment, method statement validation, safe execution of lifting operations, inspection of lifting tools and tackles, PoWRA document review and compliance, and ensuring safe practices during crane erection, alignment, testing, and commissioning stages.

Additionally, the position focuses on developing practical, site-based safety solutions, conducting safety audits, training personnel, and fostering a strong safety culture to prevent incidents and ensure safe project delivery.

Typical responsibilities include:

  1. Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and KC standards during site operations and project activities.
  2. Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA/JSA) for all activities, especially crane erection, commissioning.
  3. Ensure proper selection, inspection, and certification of lifting tools & tackles (slings, shackles, hooks, Crane height access).
  4. Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with HSE standards.
  5. Implement and control the Permit to Work system for high-risk activities.
  6. Review and compliance of PoWRA document.
  7. Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and job specific training sessions for sub-contractor workers and staff.
  8. Conduct a HSE subcontractor audit as per Subcontractor check sheet.
  9. Manage and support the company’s HSE Performance Management System ARMOR by validating, assigning for investigation, and monitoring topics arising from Observations, Near Misses, Incidents etc.
  10. Ensure health medical checkup of all subcontractor workers and staff, (vertigo test.)
  11. Participating in internal audits (ISO 45001, ISO 14001.)
  12. Participating in External Audits as required (ISO 45001, ISO 14001.)
  13. Assist in investigations of incidents as required.
  14. Promote ARMOR observation and leading indicator reporting.
  15. Ensure the emergency preparedness on site during activities.
  16. Identify opportunities to improve safety performance and implement best practices.
  17. Provide practical, site-based solutions to enhance safety and productivity.
  18. Support management in achieving zero harm and incident-free operation.
  19. Awareness of ISO 14001 & 45001 Standards

  6. Conducting the site audit of subcontractor and preparing audit reports.
  7. Ensuring and checking of PPE use on site.
  8. Accountable for KPI completion.
  9. Adherence of Legal compliance at site.
  10. Preparing a Monthly HSE MIS.

Specialised requirements – Qualifications/licences:

  • Advance diploma in Industrial safety (ADIS)
  • Any engineering Diploma or BSc with technical knowledge
  • 2 to 5 years of Experience in HSE field
  • Good Communication skills of English, Hindi and Marathi language.
  • Strong ability to work with computer programs: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Exposure to local legal compliance.

Working Relationships

  • The position reports directly to IS&IE South Asia HSE Specialist ISE.
  • He will work and cooperate with IS&IE south Asia DGM.
  • He will also support to SE APAC IE India Site Management DGM and Site engineers.
