Dairy Supervisor
Position Summary
The Dairy Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dairy department, ensuring product availability, freshness, and proper merchandising. This role leads dairy associates, maintains inventory control, and ensures the department meets sales, quality, and food safety standards while delivering an excellent customer experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Operations
- Oversee daily dairy department functions, including stocking, rotation, and product presentation
- Ensure shelves, coolers, and backstock are properly maintained and organized
- Maintain full, fresh, and visually appealing dairy displays at all times
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to meet customer demand
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, train, and support dairy clerks and stockers
- Assign tasks and ensure efficient workflow during shifts
- Reinforce productivity, stocking standards, and accountability
- Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment
Product Quality & Freshness
- Ensure strict adherence to rotation (FIFO) and date-checking processes
- Monitor product quality and remove outdated or damaged items promptly
- Maintain proper temperature controls for all refrigerated products
- Ensure all items meet food safety and freshness standards
Merchandising & Sales Execution
- Execute promotional displays, ad items, and seasonal sets
- Ensure accurate pricing, tagging, and signage throughout the department
- Identify opportunities to increase sales through strong in-stock conditions and display execution
- Monitor sales trends and adjust stocking accordingly
Inventory & Shrink Control
- Manage backroom organization and inventory accuracy
- Minimize shrink through proper handling, rotation, and ordering practices
- Assist with inventory counts and product receiving
- Ensure proper storage of all dairy products
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Ensure all refrigeration equipment is functioning properly and report issues
- Enforce safe stocking practices, including lifting and equipment use
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment
- Previous grocery, dairy, or perishable department experience preferred
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of product rotation, freshness, and food safety standards
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold environments
