Looking for a role where you can be outdoors, work with purpose, and play a part in supporting Auckland’s water supply? This is your opportunity.

As a Dam Technician, you’ll spend your time out in some of the region’s most impressive natural environments, working on and around dams. This is a hands-on role where your confidence in outdoor settings and around water, combined with your technical skills, will help you succeed.

In this role, you will:

  • Operate and maintain critical headworks structures to ensure they remain safe and reliable
  • Play a key part in keeping our water supply systems running smoothly through clear communication and operational support
  • Help maintain our hydrological network, ensuring it meets performance standards and supports informed decision-making

This is a role where no two days are the same, and where your work directly contributes to something essential for Aucklanders.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in practical, hands-on work, and feels confident working in and around water environments.

You’ll bring:

  • A relevant technical qualification (or equivalent practical experience)
  • A current full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Ideally, a tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science (helpful, but not essential)
  • Experience working in a similar environment, with a strong focus on safety around water
  • Confidence using computer-based systems and databases

You’ll also be:

  • A strong problem solver who can think on your feet
  • Comfortable working independently, while also contributing to a supportive, close-knit team
  • Reliable, practical, and motivated to deliver high-quality work
