Data Scientist (AI) for Demand Forecasting (m/f/d)

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to transform raw data into actionable demand signals, directly influencing procurement, logistics, and financial strategy across all departments.
  • You will be responsible for the forecasting engine and will join an international team.
  • You will be responsible for following main duties:
    • Algorithm Design: Develop and tune time-series models ranging from classical econometric approaches (ARIMA, Exponential Smoothing) to modern ML (XGBoost, LightGBM) and deep learning (Temporal Fusion Transformers, N-BEATS).
    • Hierarchical Forecasting: Implement reconciliation methods (bottom up, top down, or MinT) to ensure forecasts are consistent across different levels of the product hierarchy (SKU, product hierarchy, region).
    • Experimentation: Conduct rigorous back-testing and A/B testing of model versions to quantify the reduction in safety stock requirements and out-of-stock incidents.
    • Insight Communication: Develop dashboards that visualize forecast results, uncertainty, and explainable AI (XAI) outputs to build trust with non-technical stakeholders.
    • Optimization: Work with the Data Engineer to optimize model inference times.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, machine learning or a similar quantitative field.
  • At least 5 years of proven practical experience in Python (including polars, scikit-learn) and machine learning algorithms is a must.
  • Proven practical experience in time-series forecasting, including profound knowledge of seasonality, trend decomposition, and handling typical problems like ramp-ups and ramp-downs is a must.
  • Expert in building robust and automated data pipelines with ETL tools.
  • Proven practical experience in analyzing requirements and processes to design solutions based on them.
  • Practical experience with SQL, Python, Git and PowerBI.
  • Proven practical experience in R and R Shiny is a plus.
