YOUR NEXT CO-OP PLACEMENT

Work term: Fall 2026

Work term length: 4-month

From classroom to co-op to career, every step of your journey has an impact on your future. That’s why it makes sense to choose a co-op placement with a company that offers truly rewarding work and real-life experience. At Definity®, your contributions, creativity, and energy will be put to good use, and you’ll get to be involved with initiatives that support our strategic goals and use your skills in a supportive team environment.

If you’re looking for a company that takes care of its people — full time, part time, and co-ops alike — and has a track record of doing big things, get ready to love it here.

What can you expect in this role?

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Co-op Student to join our Claims team for a critical project. The legacy Claims Data System (CDS) is being decommissioned in February 2027, and we must ensure our business users retain access to historical claims data for investigations and reporting.

This role will be instrumental in a special project focused on consolidating complex claims data and developing a user-friendly interface to make this data accessible. The successful candidate will work closely with our data and business teams to transform raw data into a valuable business asset.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data engineers and business SMEs to understand data requirements.
  • Design, develop, and implement a 'semantic' data layer, consolidating approximately 150 tables from the legacy CDS system into a collection of business-ready data products within our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment.
  • Develop a user interface (UI) in Excel, leveraging the newly created data products to allow business users to easily look up and analyze historical claims information.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the data aggregation processes and the final UI tool.
  • Participate in knowledge transfer sessions to hand off the completed solution and documentation to the business and IT support teams.
  • Assist in user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure the solution is accurate, reliable, and meets business needs.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Business Technology Management, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, Power Query, and creating user-friendly interfaces.
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis. Familiarity with SQL or Python for data transformation is a significant asset.
  • A foundational understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform) is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with complex, multi-source datasets.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A keen interest in data, analytics, and building practical solutions to business problems.
