Position Overview

Essnova is seeking a Database & Cloud Architect to support a federal marine minerals and geospatial information program. This role combines enterprise database administration with cloud-hosted GIS infrastructure engineering, supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments, ArcGIS Enterprise deployments, Azure cloud services, and federal security compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate possesses expertise in enterprise geodatabases, database optimization, schema management, ArcGIS service publishing, Azure cloud architecture, and troubleshooting complex GIS environments supporting mission-critical federal programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain enterprise geospatial databases across development, test, and production environments
  • Administer Microsoft SQL Server and enterprise geodatabase environments
  • Support schema modifications, versioning workflows, backups, reconciliation, and performance tuning
  • Manage mosaics, rasters, indices, statistics, and database optimization activities
  • Publish and maintain geospatial services within ArcGIS Enterprise environments
  • Troubleshoot database, infrastructure, and service publishing issues within Azure-hosted systems
  • Support DOI security requirements, vulnerability remediation efforts, and FISMA Moderate compliance activities
  • Provide recommendations to improve system reliability, scalability, performance, and security
  • Maintain FGDC and ISO-compliant metadata and data management processes
  • Support cloud-hosted marine minerals and scientific data repositories

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, Geography, Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft SQL Server administration and optimization
  • Experience with enterprise geodatabase design, maintenance, and versioned environments
  • Strong knowledge of Spatial SQL and geospatial database technologies
  • Experience supporting ArcGIS Enterprise architecture, deployment, and administration
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Azure cloud services, including storage, networking, compute, and security
  • Experience troubleshooting performance issues in complex cloud-hosted environments
  • Knowledge of FGDC and ISO 19115 metadata standards
  • Familiarity with federal security requirements and FISMA Moderate compliance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI/Public Trust clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting BOEM, DOI, NOAA, USGS, or other federal geospatial programs
  • Familiarity with marine mineral datasets and scientific data repositories
  • Experience with branch and traditional geodatabase versioning workflows
  • Knowledge of DOI cloud hosting requirements and enterprise GIS best practices
  • Relevant Microsoft Azure, Esri, or database certifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale environmental or natural resource management systems
