Department Manager

Position Summary:

The Department Manager oversees the daily operations for PTMW, Inc to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety standards are consistently met. This role is responsible for managing personnel, maintaining equipment and inventory, and improving processes to meet production deadlines and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations & Performance Tracking
    • Monitor and report performance metrics for each shift and hold team members accountable.
    • Maintain an updated daily production schedule.

    • Track KPIs such as throughput, downtime, scrap, rework, and labor efficiency.
    • Implement continuous improvements using lean manufacturing principles.
    • Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and other departments to resolve issues and remove barriers.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Monitor employee time tracking to ensure accurate job clocking and time balancing in GSS (ERP System).
    • Resolve employee conflicts promptly and professionally.
    • Attend daily startup meetings for both shifts; coach and support department team leaders to improve effectiveness.
    • Identify team members in need of additional training and arrange internal and external training as needed.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive training plans for all new hires, including ongoing progress monitoring and maintenance of a training matrix for all employees.
    • Provide coaching and feedback to develop department team members and enhance their skills.
  • Quality Control
    • Establish and maintain technician level quality checks to ensure the highest level of quality standards are consistently met.
    • Follow up on all rework; identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Process Knowledge & Improvement
    • In-depth understanding of all department processes.
    • Expand technical knowledge of department functions through continuous learning and professional development.
  • Process & Documentation
    • Review and update process and procedure documentation annually.
    • Ensure all preventative maintenance (PM) tasks are completed on schedule.
    • Actively participate in regular production meetings and provide status updates on workflow and product progress.
    • Collaborate with other managers to exchange feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Manage staffing, material flow, tools, and equipment usage to support efficient operations.
