Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

Come be a part of a dynamic, fast-paced legal team as a Dependency Specialist at the Office of the Legal Advocate.

In the role as a Dependency Specialist with our Juvenile Dependency/Severance team, we will count on you to be a multitasker as you support our attorneys by opening/closing cases, identifying possible conflicts, and making sure all case information is accurate.

We Require

  • Three years of progressively responsible legal, court, justice system, or administrative support-related experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education may substitute for up to two years of the experience requirement

We Also Value

  • An associate’s degree

  • Two years of experience in an indigent defense agency

  • One year of experience in Juvenile Dependency/Severance

  • Experience using case management systems (JuNe/iCIS)

Job Contributions

  • Creates, updates, and organizes hard case files and case management records/files

  • Identifies potential conflicts for the office to ensure the case can be accepted

  • Researches and resolves errors in the case management system to ensure attorneys receive accurate information

  • Updates, tracks, and reports assignments and caseloads to confirm attorneys carry the appropriate number of cases

  • Prepares legal and administrative correspondence, documents, and case notes

  • Reviews court and case documents to update case files, court calendars and case management systems

  • Updates and coordinates attorney calendars to avoid scheduling conflicts; arranges for attorney coverage when needed

  • Serves as backup to other clerk positions, as needed

Working Conditions

  • Traumatic subject matters (crime scenes, accidents, etc.), frequent interruptions, time pressures, high volumes of work, and handling multiple, complicated, unscheduled, and frequently changing tasks

  • Accuracy, decision making, concentration/vigilance, teamwork, working in close physical proximity with others, and public contact may be common occurrences

  • Ability to lift 15-25 pounds from the floor to waist; 15 pounds waist to shoulder or shoulder to overhead; carry 25 pounds 100 feet or push/pull 100 pounds 1000 feet
