We have an exciting opportunity for an outstanding individual to join our team as a Design Engineer III- Water Resources at our headquarters in Fullerton, California.
General Characteristics:
- Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.
- Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- May act in responsible charge of projects.
- Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
- Applies leadership and teamwork skills to effectively plan, execute, and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet project stakeholder needs.
- Designs a complete project, system, component, or process.
- Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents.
- Designs and conducts investigations.
- Analyzes and interprets test data.
- Assigns tasks to and directs other technical and non-technical staff.
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.
Critical Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist Project Management
- Manage workload of other engineering staff
- Meet with clients regarding work and performance of team, and regarding current and future work
- Prepare project concepts through final design plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) bid packages
- Solve design problems using engineering calculations and following general design standards
- Prepare complete engineering reports related to civil site improvements, storm drainage, water distribution and transmission systems, pumping systems, pipelines, utilities, streets and roadways, bikeways, sanitary sewer collection systems, and water and wastewater facilities
- Prepare and/or support reports and technical writing related to engineering projects, scopes of work, proposals, grants and other initiatives.
- Prepare project drawings/designs in AutoCAD Civil3D software
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D to establish horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross sections, and perform earthwork calculations
- Serve on project teams under the supervision of CWE Project Managers
- Complete assignments on time and within budget and achieve firm’s quality objectives
- Interact with public and private clients and stakeholders
- Interact with multi-discipline and multi-office teams
Required Competencies and Qualifications
- 4+ Years of Experience in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or other Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years’ Architect-Engineering (AE) industry experience.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Civil Engineering, or 8+ years of AE experience.
- Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, etc.).
- Proficient in ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related geospatial software
- Proficient in PDF software, such as Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
- Abilities to grasp and become proficient in new software and technologies
- Ability to pay attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic.
- Good interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.
- Proactive approach/self-starter/takes initiative
- Positive attitude/team player
- Ability to kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid California driver’s license and insurable driving record
Desired Competencies and Qualifications
- MS, PhD or other advanced degree(s) in related fields.
- Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP)
- Member of professional practice organization (e.g. ASCE, ACEC, APWA, etc..)
- Involved, organizes, and/or leads outreach and service activities with community service organizations
