Diesel Mechanic

As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including trucks and fleet vehicles. This role requires expertise in diesel engines, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
What you will be responsible for:
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Use computerized diagnostic equipment and software to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine-related issues.
- Interpret fault codes, engine performance data, and emissions reports to determine appropriate repairs.
- Conduct inspections and identify the root causes of equipment and vehicle malfunctions.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Repair & Maintenance
- Diagnose, repair, overhaul, and replace diesel engines, transmissions, fuel systems, steering components, suspension systems, and braking systems.
- Perform routine maintenance services including oil and filter changes, lubrication, tune-ups, fluid checks, tire rotations, and brake servicing.
- Repair and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems commonly found on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure all repairs are completed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
Electrical Systems
- Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems, including wiring harnesses, batteries, alternators, starters, sensors, and electronic control modules (ECMs).
- Troubleshoot diesel engine control systems and electronic diagnostic systems.
- Test and calibrate components using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment.
Compliance & Safety :
- Inspect and maintain engine and exhaust systems to ensure compliance with emissions and environmental regulations.
- Perform emissions testing and make necessary adjustments to meet regulatory requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and workplace safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document inspections, diagnostic findings, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Complete work orders and maintenance records in a timely manner.
- Communicate repair recommendations, equipment status, and maintenance requirements to supervisors and fleet managers.
- Assist in developing preventative maintenance schedules.

What we need from you:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, or Automotive Service Technician program is preferred.
- Journeyperson Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic certification is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicles or equipment.
- Proficiency in using computerized diagnostic software and repair equipment.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, fuel injection systems, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
- Valid driver's license required; Class 1/AZ/CDL license is considered an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Where/When you will be working:
- Work is performed in maintenance shops, garages, fleet facilities, construction sites, or field service environments.
- Exposure to diesel exhaust, noise, vibration, oils, grease, and varying weather conditions.
- Frequent lifting of heavy parts and equipment.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Occasional overtime, on-call work, or emergency repairs may be required.
