Awanui is at an important point in its digital and innovation journey, with a focus on unlocking greater value from its data, strengthening digital capability, and enabling scalable analytics, trusted insight, and future GenAI applications. This role will help build momentum by ensuring digital initiatives are clearly prioritised, well-coordinated, and effectively delivered across the business.


Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, the Digital Transformation Lead works across business and technology teams to turn strategy into action, drive priority initiatives, and establish practical ways of working, including delivery rhythms and lightweight governance. Partnering closely with the Founding Data Engineer and wider teams, the role shapes roadmaps, enables cross-functional collaboration, and ensures digital investments translate into measurable outcomes.


This role can be based in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the delivery of priority digital and data initiatives, turning strategy into clear, practical plans and coordinated action.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to take use cases from idea through to delivery, always keeping focus on business value.
  • Shape and maintain the digital roadmap, including priorities, dependencies, and backlog, to ensure focus stays on the highest impact work.
  • Put in place lightweight governance and simple delivery guardrails that support progress while still managing risk.
  • Bring people together across business and technology teams to keep alignment strong and delivery moving.
  • Support teams to build capability and confidence in new digital tools, ways of working, and emerging opportunities.

To be successful in this role you need to have:

You bring experience in digital transformation, delivery leadership, or programme coordination within complex organisations, with a strong track record of turning strategy into practical delivery outcomes. You are confident working across business and technology teams to move initiatives from strategy into execution in environments with competing priorities and ambiguity.

  • Experience working across business and technology teams to coordinate delivery and keep initiatives progressing effectively.
  • Ability to manage roadmaps, backlogs, and multiple priorities, while balancing delivery pace with lightweight governance and practical structure.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across diverse groups.
  • Sound judgement in prioritisation and decision-making, particularly when balancing competing priorities and delivery risk.
  • Experience enabling change and supporting the adoption of new tools, systems, and ways of working across organisations.
  • Ability to operate effectively in complex or ambiguous environments, maintaining clarity and momentum without overcomplicating delivery.
  • Curiosity for digital, data, and emerging technologies, including AI, and how they can be applied to improve outcomes.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
