The Director, Behavioral Economics Nudge Unit is the expert leader and internal face of Humana’s industry-leading Behavioral Economics team.

  • How can Humana use technological solutions to better support healthy member behaviors?

  • What’sthe best way for Humana to respond when a member has a fall?

  • How can we increase primary careutilizationfor members who need it most?

In addition to exceptionalpeopleleadership and stakeholder management skills, this role requires an ability to think creatively and pragmatically aboutbehavior changeinterventions, balancingambitionand feasibility to support real-worldimpact.


Use your skills to make an impact

Humana’s industry-leading Behavioral Economics team(“Nudge Unit”)acts as an internal consultancy within Humana, applyingbehavioral science and causal inference toolsto answer questions that matter. Team members work in cross-functional environments to design and implementinterventions targetingclinical outcomes, financial impacts, and other key factors. The team’s work directlyimproves outcomes for members,informs business decisions,and influences broader strategies.

TheDirector is the leaderof the BE team,accountable for the team’s delivery of high-impact, high-quality work through:

  • Developing and executing on a Nudge Unit strategy,includingmodelingand coaching the prioritization of high-valuework

  • Effective and supportive leadership of the associates on the Nudge team, enabling growth and sustaining high engagement

  • Internal advocacy and opportunity identificationto build the team’s pipeline of high-value work

  • Quality control, through direct oversight and the management ofappropriate processes

  • Stakeholder management, including alignment-building with senior leaders

  • Thought leadership across the portfolio, with hands-on involvement as needed

TheDirectormust work autonomouslyand collaboratively, managing stakeholders at all levels of seniority, and coaching the team to do the same.Successin this role means(1) supporting growth and development for the current team;(2)developing and executing on an effective strategy for the Nudge work; and (3) most importantly, enabling the team to consistently deliver measurable and meaningful impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of people leadership experience in a professional environment

  • Minimum 6 years developing, implementing, andevaluating behavior change interventions, such as nudges

  • History of solving problems, creatingsolutionsand driving change within a team

  • Curious, able to learn from others, and comfortable with ambiguity

  • Demonstrated ability toarticulate ideaseffectively& distill key takeawaysinwritten materials and live discussion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD Degree ina relevantfield

  • Experience leadingconsulting engagements

  • Experience inhealthcare, insurance, or related field

  • Experience in business development, sales, or related functions

  • Experience conductingeconomicor behavioral science research

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$156,600 - $215,400 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
