Director, Critical ER Education

ABOUT VEG

In 2014, VEG was born with a mission to help people and their pets when they need it most by challenging norms and fixing the ER experience. Since then, we’ve expanded rapidly, with hospitals nationwide open 24/7/365, and created an ER experience that focuses on what our pets and pet parents really need. We’ve done the same for our people (VEGgies), finding a way to say YES so they are empowered to achieve great things, grow in unexpected ways, and find a place where they truly belong.

We’re rethinking emergency care from every angle—from how we run our hospitals to how we support the people working inside them. That’s where our headquarters team comes in. Whether building technology to make our hospitals more efficient, recruiting and growing incredible VEGgies, or bringing our brand to life through marketing, our VQ (VEG Headquarters) team makes it all possible—ensuring our hospitals and people have everything they need to help pets and their families.

VEG is a 2025 and 2026 certified Great Place to Work®.

THE JOB

At VEG, we find a way to say YES — so our doctors can grow into confident, capable emergency clinicians through exceptional education.

ER CERT is VEG’s 7-month Emergency Certificate program for advanced ER doctors ready to take their medicine to the next level. It builds clinical proficiency across key emergency topics while reinforcing high-quality medicine the VEG Way.

As Director, Critical ER Education (ER CERT), you’ll help shape the next chapter of one of VEG’s most important doctor development programs. You’ll teach, coach, strengthen curriculum, elevate the learner experience, and build the systems that keep ER CERT high-touch, clinically rigorous, and scalable as VEG grows.

This role is for an experienced ECC clinician-educator who loves teaching, creates an environment of psychological safety, holds a high clinical bar, and wants to multiply their impact by helping VEG ER doctors be at their best when patients need it most.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Teach and facilitate high-impact ER CERT labs, online learning experiences, and learner debriefs that help ER doctors build confidence, judgment, and clinical skill.
  • Create psychologically safe, high-standard learning environments where doctors can stretch, make mistakes, receive feedback, and grow without fear of judgment.
  • Translate complex emergency medicine into practical, durable learning that doctors can apply in real life hospital settings across a spectrum of care.
  • Build deep expertise in the ER CERT curriculum, learner journeys, labs, online content, assessments, facilitator guides, and operational workflows.
  • Design, refine, and improve curriculum, facilitator guides, assessments, and learning materials grounded in clinical excellence, adult learning educational principles, evidence-informed medicine, psychological safety, and the VEG Way.
  • Establish durable systems for curriculum review, evidence-informed updates, version control, change logs, facilitator consistency, and learner experience improvements.
  • Partner across ER CERT leadership, TD Operations, Doctor Development, VQ partners, instructors, and field leaders to turn feedback into prioritized improvements that are tracked through completion.
  • Help future-proof ER CERT for 2027 and beyond by preserving the high-touch learner experience while piloting targeted improvements in areas such as case design, simulation flow, assessment, facilitator enablement, and feedback loops.

TRAVEL

This role requires regular travel for ER CERT labs, learner experiences, VQ working sessions, and team events. In a typical year, expect approximately 6–8 ER CERT labs, plus quarterly or twice-yearly VQ strategy sessions and annual team gatherings. Travel is expected to average approximately 30–40%, depending on the ER CERT calendar.
