Position Overview:
The Director, US Field Market Access will lead US Field Market Access efforts in a defined region across the Beam portfolio. Given the complexity of the US healthcare system, this role will engage Treatment Centers and Payers on contracting, pricing strategy, affordability, and accessibility. This role is instrumental in driving coverage for Beam’s first commercial product, risto-cel, an ex vivo gene therapy being studied in Sickle Cell Disease.

Responsibilities:
- Execute the Market Access Strategies for the Beam portfolio with Payers and Treatment Centers, including communicating economic value propositions.
- Negotiate directly with Commercial and Government Payers to ensure pricing and coverage for the Beam portfolio, potentially including managed Medicaid and Medicaid FFS.
- Educate providers on local payer trends, appropriate billing and coding for gene therapy, providing support to offices for individual patient reimbursement journeys, including troubleshooting reimbursement concerns.
- Monitor, analyze, and influence local payer trends in rare disease and gene therapy to ensure environment supports innovation in gene therapy affordability and accessibility.
- Provide training and education programs on reimbursement best practices and health policy issues to internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, such as Treatment Centers.
- Work seamlessly with cross functional field pod (Medical Affairs, Gene Therapy Operations, Key Account Management) to support access and coverage of Beam’s portfolio.
- Develop local / regional relationships with professional societies, medical associations, advocacy groups, thought leaders and trade groups for the purposes of driving comprehensive coverage and adequate payment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with 5+ years in market access, including field roles.
- Hospital and payer experience establishing coverage policies for complex therapies required.
- Demonstrated success in building and managing relationships with payers and financial decision-makers in Treatment Centers.
- Must have established relationships with payers (Commercial payers – required; Medicaid – preferred).
- Buy & bill experience required; Experience in cell or gene therapy preferred.
- Experience working in local, cross-functional field teams, including Key Account Managers, MSLs, and Patient Operations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time/as needed.
Beam’s field team operates through an account-based pod model (a team structure that groups cross-functional specialists together to manage a specific segment of accounts from lead to close). The Director, Key Account Manager (KAM), owns the integrated account strategy, account plan, and overall account performance. The Director, Field Market Access owns access, reimbursement and payer engagement. The Associate Director/Director, Gene Therapy Operations (GTO) owns site operational readiness and apheresis and patient logistics executions. Each role and team is expected to work cross functionally while maintaining clear functional accountability.
The salary range below reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, education, scope of job, internal comparisons, and market data.
