Sundays and variable weekdays, 40 hours per week

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Worship Department seeks to advance and support our vision by providing spiritual leadership, musical direction, and creativity to corporate worship and prayer that is theologically grounded, artistically excellent, pastorally sensitive, fostering congregational participation and spiritual formation.


The Director of Contemporary Worship is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the church’s contemporary worship ministry. They work collaboratively with leadership by equipping and empowering the congregation and worship team, across all generations, to encounter God through the contemporary worship at the church. (Please note we already have in place an outstanding Music Director and team who lead our classical music ministry.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Pastor of Worship, Senior Pastor, Music Director and HP Pres leadership in envisioning the ongoing plan for worship and prayer at HP Pres
  • Plan and lead contemporary worship Sunday services, plus Christmas Eve, Easter and other key events
  • As required lead for prayer gatherings, funerals and coordinate requests for band led songs at weddings
  • Network, recruit, audition, train, and disciple worship leaders, instrumentalists and vocalists (volunteer and contract) at HP Pres for their growth and development
  • Foster artistic creativity among team, staff and congregation
  • Oversee scheduling, planning systems, and volunteer rotations
  • Shape budget and financial plan for Contemporary music
  • Work closely with Production Team regarding AV, mixing, equipment, and personnel
  • Coordinate with Kids & Student Teams


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, develop and care for Hall Worship Director and all team members; including monthly 1:1 reviews, and semi-annual performance reviews
  • Partner with HR and immediate supervisor in hiring and offboarding process
  • Hosting visiting musicians and worship leaders

Spiritual

  • A vibrant, mature disciple of Jesus whose beliefs are aligned with the theology and practice of HP Pres and ECO
  • A passion for inviting others into corporate worship and prayer
  • Models a heart of worship rooted in a life shaped by prayer, Scripture, and personal openness to the Holy Spirit

Leadership & Character

  • Humble and teachable with a shepherd’s heart
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams of volunteers and staff with wisdom and discernment
  • Strong relational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellence, composure and humor
  • Always looking for the next leader to raise up

Musical & Technical

  • Exceptional vocalist AND instrumentalist (guitar and/or piano required)
  • Proven experience leading worship in a large or multi-service context
  • At home with both contemporary worship and historic liturgy, hymns, and sacraments
  • Fluent in worship tech: Planning Center, tracks, AV systems etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology and/or music or equivalent experience


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily church-based with evening and weekend responsibilities
  • Occasional retreats, special services, and seasonal events
  • Able to lift 50lbs & stand for extended periods
