Director of Engineering - Pre-opening Regent Kuala Lumpur

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Strategy & Asset Management

  • - Develop and execute a comprehensive engineering and maintenance strategy aligned with Regent’s ultra-luxury standards

  • - Lead long-term asset protection plans including CAPEX, lifecycle management, and refurbishment strategies

  • - Ensure all plant, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained to optimal performance levels

  • - Drive reliability-centered maintenance and preventive maintenance programs

2. Operations & Maintenance Excellence

  • - Oversee day-to-day engineering operations including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and guest room maintenance

  • - Ensure minimal downtime and rapid response to maintenance issues

  • - Maintain impeccable standards in guest areas, back-of-house, and critical infrastructure

  • - Implement robust SOPs aligned with IHG engineering standards

3. Guest Experience & Quality

  • - Ensure all engineering services are delivered seamlessly without disruption to guests

  • - Maintain superior room product quality (lighting, temperature, water pressure, in-room technology, etc.)

  • - Support F&B, wellness, and recreational facilities to deliver flawless experiences

  • - Collaborate with Housekeeping and Front Office to resolve guest issues promptly

4. Sustainability & Energy Management

  • - Lead energy conservation and sustainability initiatives in line with IHG ESG goals

  • - Optimize utilities (energy, water, waste) through smart systems and innovative solutions

  • - Drive green building practices and support sustainability certifications

  • - Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics

5. Health, Safety & Compliance

  • - Ensure full compliance with local regulations, fire & life safety standards, and IHG policies

  • - Oversee fire safety systems, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation

  • - Conduct regular audits, inspections, and drills

  • - Maintain documentation and readiness for internal and external audits

6. Project Management & Pre-opening

  • - Lead engineering aspects of renovations, refurbishments, and new installations

  • - Collaborate with owners, consultants, and contractors on CAPEX projects

  • - Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to luxury quality standards

  • - Support pre-opening activities including testing & commissioning

7. Technology & Innovation

  • - Manage Building Management Systems (BMS), energy management systems, and smart technologies

  • - Drive adoption of innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and guest comfort

  • - Ensure integration of smart room technologies and IoT where applicable

8. Financial Management

  • - Develop and manage engineering budgets (OPEX & CAPEX)

  • - Monitor costs, drive efficiencies, and ensure optimal resource utilization

  • - Build business cases for major investments and upgrades

9. Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • - Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team

  • - Ensure appropriate staffing levels and technical competencies

  • - Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement

  • - Drive training and succession planning

10. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • - Work closely with all departments (Rooms, F&B, Wellness, Security) to support operations

  • - Liaise with ownership, corporate engineering teams, and external vendors

  • - Support brand audits and ensure alignment with Regent and IHG standards

Qualifications & Experience

  • - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical or equivalent)

  • - 10–15 years of experience in engineering operations, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role

  • - Experience in luxury or upscale hotels/resorts

  • - Strong knowledge of building systems, safety standards, and compliance

Preferred Experience

  • - Pre-opening or major renovation experience in luxury hotels

  • - Experience with integrated resorts or large-scale properties

  • - Exposure to sustainability certifications (LEED, etc.) and energy optimization systems

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • - Guest satisfaction scores related to room and facility quality

  • - Preventive maintenance compliance rate

  • - Energy and water consumption metrics

  • - Equipment downtime and response time

  • - CAPEX project delivery (time, cost, quality)

  • - Safety compliance and audit scores

  • - Cost efficiency (maintenance cost per room, energy cost per sqm)
