Director Of Mission (EX)

The Director of Mission oversees the development, organization, and execution of St. Leo the Great Parish’s vision for local outreach, Catholic Social Teaching, and evangelization through its social and service ministries across both the St. Leo the Great and St. Vincent de Paul campuses in Baltimore City. The Director serves as a primary bridge between the church, its parishioners, and the wider neighborhoods, and mobilizes the congregation to live out their faith through service and social engagement, ensuring all initiatives respect and promote human dignity and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Must be willing and able to work weekends and evenings and actively engage with the parish community.

Essential Functions:

Parish Programming

  • Oversees the organization, execution, and development of social and service ministries across the St. Leo the Great and St. Vincent de Paul campuses.
  • Recruits, trains, and mentor’s parish volunteers who seek deeper connection to the community through service and supervises the Jesuit Volunteer.
  • Works with the Pastor, Director of Operations, and Parish and Finance Council to manage the budget and statistical reporting of outreach programs and produces an Annual Community Impact Report.
  • Ensures that all outreach programs and volunteers are compliant with parish and archdiocesan values and standards, including safe‑environment requirements.
  • Contributes content to the website, social media, newsletter, and digital platforms to communicate opportunities and advance the parish mission.

Community Outreach and Development

  • Actively engages and builds relationships with community and archdiocesan social justice, respect life, and evangelization entities to sustain and grow outreach opportunities for parishioners.
  • Develop programs and processes that assist individuals in need by providing direct assistance, accessing community resources, or making connections with other agencies.
  • Oversees and/or is actively involved with parish or neighborhood outreach events and festivals, including the annual St. Anthony’s Festival.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Superintendent to ensure all campus grounds and spaces are safe, inviting, and prepared for ministry.

Position Qualifications:

  • Mission‑driven and grounded in the Catholic faith, with working knowledge of the Church’s Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Ability to use and learn new technology and computer software (e.g., Ministry Platform, Excel, social media, website, etc.).
  • Commitment to promoting awareness and engagement on a wide range of social concerns related to human dignity from conception until natural death.
  • Ability to work and relate with people from diverse backgrounds while adhering to and modeling Catholic Church teaching and values.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and evenings and actively engage with the parish community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Social Work, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Relevant parish, nonprofit, or community outreach experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

    Pay Range: $50,000 - $60,000, Annualized
