Director of Product, Freight

Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new customer-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey.

As Director of Product, Freight, you will own product strategy and execution for Mudflap’s freight-focused experiences. You’ll report directly to our Co-Founder and Head of Product and serve as the senior product leader responsible for shaping how truckers and fleets interact with freight—from discovery and decision-making through execution and settlement.

This is a high-impact leadership role with broad scope and influence. You’ll partner closely with engineering, data, design, operations, and commercial teams to define new product surfaces, evolve our marketplace capabilities, and ensure we are solving the right problems for carriers, owner-operators, and freight partners. You’ll bring deep freight and logistics intuition while helping Mudflap thoughtfully expand beyond fuel into adjacent workflows that matter most to our customers.

Work Location: This role is based in Palo Alto, CA and involves a hybrid work approach, balancing in-office collaboration with the ability to work remotely.

To support our team, we offer:

  • Commuter benefits to ease your travel

  • Lunches and snacks to keep you fueled

  • A collaborative, high-growth environment where you’ll work closely with talented teammates across the company

Expectations (In this role, you will):

  • Lead discovery, definition, and delivery of freight-related product initiatives that support carrier workflows and marketplace growth

  • Own and evolve the freight product roadmap, balancing near-term business impact with long-term platform strategy

  • Bring a strong point of view on freight economics, carrier and broker needs, and operational realities to inform product decisions

  • Champion customer empathy by spending time with owner-operators, small fleets, and freight partners to deeply understand their needs

  • Drive alignment across engineering, design, data, operations, marketing, and business development teams

  • Define and track KPIs related to freight engagement, adoption, liquidity, retention, and monetization

  • Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of product managers as the freight surface area grows

Experience (What we look for):

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with 3+ years in a senior or leadership role

  • Deep experience in freight, logistics, transportation technology, or marketplaces serving carriers and shippers

  • Proven track record of launching and scaling complex, multi-sided products with real operational constraints

  • Strong intuition for user workflows, freight decision-making, and the tradeoffs inherent in logistics marketplaces

  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to turn ambiguity into clear direction

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without authority

  • Exceptional communication skills, including comfort presenting strategy and tradeoffs to executive leadership

  • Experience operating on teams that have evolved traditional SDLC processes into agentic workflows, where product teams drive discovery, rapid prototyping, and specification creation optimized for AI-assisted development before engineering execution.
