Director of Student Support & Case Management

Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for Director of Student Support & Case Management in the Dean of Students department. The Director of Student Support & Case Management is a specialized position which blends the functions of non-clinical student consultation, program coordination of student referrals and intake, systems development and coordination for reporting and maintenance of student cases, and leadership in addressing factors which contribute to student attrition and improve student success.

The Director serves as a key liaison between students, staff, and university systems, managing highly sensitive and confidential issues involving student conduct, behavioral health, and civil rights compliance. This position provides non-clinical case management services and supports Title IX administration, including response coordination, resolution of complaints, and training. The Director also facilitates referrals, ensures accurate recordkeeping, and contributes to campus climate initiatives promoting equity and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

30% Assessment, Intervention, Counsel and Case Management:

  • Serve as a visible advocate for students within institutional processes, ensuring that student voices are heard, individual circumstances are considered, and systemic barriers to success are named and addressed at the appropriate level.

  • Assesses and responds to complex student concerns and complaints against a university system, process, department, student or employee by analyzing and prioritizing cases, issuing interim actions, consulting, counseling, and providing recommendations to the Dean of Students or designee.

  • Provides comprehensive assessments, case planning, and management of an array of student issues and concerns informed by evidence-based practices.

  • Assists in responding to acute mental health emergencies and crisis situations; Conducts student risk assessments (harm towards self or others) under supervision.

  • Counsels and consults with college community members (students and college employees) regarding multifaceted student concerns such as interpersonal conflicts, crises, behavioral and mental health concerns; Takes appropriate action to resolve issues with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Leads the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT); engages in behavior-based assessments of students to identify and mitigate barriers to personal and academic success, recommends options to best address student behavioral concerns; assists in the development and maintenance of reporting protocols and processes to proactively identify and engage in early intervention in support of student success.

  • Provides solution-focused direct services to address a wide range of inter/intrapersonal, social, emotional, psychological, behavioral health, and developmental needs of PSU’s student population.

30% Student Conduct, Investigation, and Adjudication:

  • Counsels students regarding Student Code of Conduct issues, formal and informal conflict resolution strategies, and hearing procedures. Interacts with university faculty and staff as necessary.

  • Conducts investigations into charges of student misconduct (e.g., Student Conduct Code, Title IX, Harassment/Discrimination); creates an investigative plan, conducts interviews with involved parties, makes credibility assessments, prepares and presents summaries of investigations and appropriate supporting documents, and communicates with the parties while protecting the neutrality, integrity, and privacy of the investigation. Acts as an impartial and unbiased party in the investigation and provides detailed reports summarizing the investigation.

  • Serves on formal student conduct administrative decision-making body and/or acts as an advisor.

  • Reviews and evaluates all incident reports submitted through Maxient to ensure timely and appropriate case management, including accurate assignment, policy interpretation, charge selection, and communication with involved parties.

  • Collaborates with campus partners to facilitate consistent responses to student conduct concerns while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and due process standards.

  • Monitors workflow effectiveness and implements process improvements to promote consistency, efficiency, and institutional compliance.

  • Assists with the administration of student conduct cases from intake through resolution, including conducting investigations, facilitating meetings, preparing documentation, issuing outcomes, and ensuring appropriate follow-up and record maintenance.

  • Partner with Housing and Residential Life professional staff to ensure consistency in conduct processes, sanctioning philosophy, and documentation standards while providing training and consultation to staff.

  • Serve as one of the institutional conduct authorities for university and housing and residence life conduct cases requiring formal adjudication or elevated review.

25% Policy, Procedure, Assessment and Process Improvement:

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and operational protocols for the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).

  • Participates in case review and intervention planning, coordinates follow-up actions, and works closely with campus stakeholders to support student well-being, assess risk, and promote a coordinated institutional response to students of concern.

  • Conducts ongoing reviews of the Student Code of Conduct and related procedures to identify opportunities for improvement, clarify expectations, and enhance operational effectiveness.

  • Research emerging trends and best practices in student conduct administration, behavioral intervention, and student affairs to recommend policy updates that support student development, accountability, and institutional goals.

  • Serves as a key resource for students, faculty, and staff regarding student conduct processes, behavioral intervention procedures, and university expectations, providing guidance, consultation, and education to foster a safe and supportive campus environment.

  • Maintain an ongoing assessment framework tracking recidivism rates, conduct rends and sanction efficacy through data collection, trend analysis, and reporting, utilizing findings to inform training, resource allocation, and continuous process improvement.

  • Produce annual and ad hoc reports translating conduct and case management data into actionable recommendations

  • Benchmark institutional practices against peer institutions and professional standards established by ASCA and NASPA

  • Serve as a campus subject matter expert on the Stop Campus Hazing Act, assisting the Dean of Students with maintaining current knowledge of legal requirements, definitions, reporting obligations and institutional compliance expectations.

  • Participates in the development and execution of annual strategic plan objectives for the Dean of Students and the Director of Civil Rights Compliance & Title IX.

  • Manages and updates Maxient system configurations. Maintains official conduct records in accordance with

institutional policy and relevant laws, utilizing the Maxient Network.

15% Education Programming and Communications:

  • Develops and facilitates activities that support the Dean of Students core functions, including Student Concerns & Complaints, Behavioral Intervention, Student Conduct, Harassment/Discrimination, Title IX & Sexual Misconduct, and Prevention/Awareness programming and training.

  • Develops and facilitates compliance-related training for the college community in the areas of Title IX regulations, Clery Act, drug-free schools, sexual harassment, and equity.

  • Develop, help deliver and assess training programs for campus faculty and staff on hazing prevention, recognition, reporting procedures and the University's responsibilities under the Stop Campus Hazing Act.

  • Develops and facilitates education and training for faculty, staff, and students to showcase Dean of Student resources such as information about health, wellness, and safety procedures/activities; promotes a positive campus culture/climate and encourages personal responsibility and awareness of the Student Code of Conduct by maintaining an intentional, visible presence across campus.

  • Partner with Housing & Residence Life, Campus Activities and academic departments to integrate student support into existing program structures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience - Time of Hire

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, sociology, public health or related field. One year's experience in case management or closely related position with a demonstrated knowledge of case management systems and/or experience working as a part of a case management coordination or support team.

  • Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, and FERPA regulations.

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, sociology, public health, or related field. This degree requirement ensures candidates possess the advanced theoretical knowledge, highly specialized methodologies, and critical problem-solving skills fundamental to this work. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential experience inherent in a formal degree program.

Preferred Education and Experience -

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, sociology, public health, or related field.

  • Three+ years full-time experience in case management or closely related position with a demonstrated knowledge of case management systems in the higher education setting and/or experience working as a part of a case management coordination or support team.
