Director, Revenue Accounting

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced accounting leader to shape and scale the revenue accounting function within a high-growth SaaS environment. As a strategic finance partner, you will oversee revenue recognition, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive operational excellence across the entire quote-to-cash lifecycle. Working closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, you will influence commercial decisions, modernize financial processes through automation and AI, and strengthen reporting capabilities. The role combines deep technical accounting expertise with people leadership, offering the chance to build scalable processes while mentoring a high-performing team in a fully remote environment.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the organization's revenue accounting strategy, ensuring full compliance with ASC 606 and U.S. GAAP across complex SaaS revenue models.
- Provide expert guidance on revenue recognition for subscriptions, usage-based pricing, bundled offerings, contract modifications, and strategic commercial transactions.
- Own end-to-end revenue accounting operations, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue, commissions, reconciliations, and financial close activities.
- Develop and maintain revenue accounting policies, technical accounting memoranda, and standardized procedures that support scalable business growth.
- Drive operational excellence by improving quote-to-cash processes, eliminating inefficiencies, and strengthening collaboration across finance, billing, legal, IT, sales operations, and FP&A.
- Build advanced revenue reporting and analytics frameworks that provide meaningful insights into revenue performance, forecasting, contract activity, and financial planning.
- Champion the adoption of AI, automation, and ERP enhancements to improve accuracy, scalability, efficiency, and reporting capabilities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership by providing accounting guidance on complex commercial arrangements and strategic business initiatives.
- Lead external audit activities related to revenue accounting while maintaining strong internal controls, audit readiness, and financial integrity.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing revenue accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant leadership within SaaS or technology revenue accounting.
- Deep technical expertise in ASC 606, SaaS revenue recognition, subscriptions, usage-based pricing, and multi-element contract arrangements.
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical accounting memoranda and interpreting complex accounting guidance.
- Proven leadership experience building, managing, mentoring, and retaining high-performing accounting teams.
- Strong background partnering with executive leadership and influencing strategic financial and commercial decisions.
- Experience improving accounting operations, financial close processes, and scalable finance infrastructure.
- Successful track record managing external audits and maintaining strong auditor relationships.
- Proficiency with ERP platforms, with NetSuite and SuiteBilling experience strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and financial modeling capabilities; familiarity with business intelligence or data visualization tools is an advantage.
- Interest in or experience implementing AI and automation solutions within finance and accounting functions.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial audiences.
- High ethical standards, exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage confidential information with professionalism.
