Echo Sonographer Extern

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

This position will provide the student with real-world experience as a Cardiac Echo Technologist learning alongside, and under the supervision of, highly experienced Echo Technologists. The student will gain essential work experience and training in performing quality diagnostic echocardiograph examinations efficiently and accurately in patient care settings providing them the opportunity to demonstrate their value as future healthcare professionals.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform echocardiograph ultrasound examinations following established policy, procedure and risk management guidelines under the supervision of a staff technologist.
  • Communicate specific problem areas regarding any procedures by obtaining a thorough patient history and sharing this information with the reading physician to ensure a quality diagnostic examination.
  • Interact professionally with the reading physician and other medical staff to ensure the utmost quality diagnostic images.
  • Communicate in a tactful and professional manner with patients and their families offering a complete and thorough explanation of the procedure being performed.
  • Procure statistical information for daily activity sheet.
  • Safely operate the ultrasound equipment and related peripheral and related photographic equipment by following established protocol.
  • Adhere to quality control and safety regulations as dictated by current established programs.
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement process to ensure optimum continuous quality improvement of care to the patient.
  • Other duties as assigned by training Technologist and/or Supervisor

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

May be required to lift up to 60 lbs. 50% sitting/50% standing

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed at hospitals, clinics, and/or physician offices. Must be able to drive to and from the testing facilities in all-weather situations. Local travel required.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

Performance of clinical job duties has no significant risk of occupational exposure.
