ED/SVP, Behavioural Risk Assurance Lead, Group Audit
Role Overview
As the Behavioural Risk Assurance Lead within Group Audit, you provide subject matter leadership on behavioural risk assurance across the Bank. This role is responsible for shaping and delivering audit approaches that assess how behaviours and cultural drivers influence outcomes for the Bank, our customers and society. As an emerging and strategically important discipline within internal audit, this role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation and deliver meaningful impact on the Bank’s risk culture and control environment.
Responsibilities:
Behavioural Risk Assurance & Audit Integration
- Act as the central subject matter expert on behavioural risk within Group Audit, advising audit leadership and teams on its application in audit activities
- Lead the development and execution of the behavioural risk assurance approach across audit planning, scoping, fieldwork, and reporting
- Embed behavioural risk considerations into audit methodology and support audit teams in identifying behavioural drivers of risk
Deep-Dive Reviews & Risk Insights
- Lead targeted behavioural risk reviews across the organisation, applying structured interviews and behavioural analysis to identify underlying behavioural patterns, decision-making biases, and cultural drivers influencing risk outcomes
- Analyse qualitative and quantitative indicators (e.g. interviews, surveys, conduct metrics, incident trends) to generate robust, evidence-based insights
- Translate behavioural observations into clear, actionable audit findings and recommendations
Stakeholder Influence & Reporting
- Communicate behavioural risk insights effectively to senior leadership, including audit leadership and business management
- Provide independent challenge on how behaviours and cultural factors impact risk outcomes
- Deliver high-quality reporting aligned with internal audit standards, with a strong focus on clarity, impact, and evidence
Methodology & Capability Development
- Continuously enhance behavioural risk audit methodology, tools, and approaches in line with emerging industry practices
- Build behavioural risk capability within Group Audit through coaching, knowledge sharing, and practical application
- Collaborate constructively with 1st and 2nd Line stakeholders while maintaining independence of assurance
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in a relevant behavioural science discipline (e.g. organisational psychology, social psychology, anthropology, cognitive or decision science).
- Strong subject matter expertise in behavioural science (e.g. organisational psychology, social psychology, decision science) with application in organisational or risk contexts
- Experience designing and conducting structured behavioural interviews and deriving reliable, evidence-based insights
- Proven ability to analyse behavioural drivers of risk, including decision-making, incentives, and cultural dynamics
- Experience in audit, risk management, financial services, or consulting, with the ability to translate the behavioural science into assurance methodology
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to operate in ambiguity and develop structured, defensible assessments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders credibly
