MYP/DP (Gr 6-12) 3 days per week. (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).

September 1, 2026, to June 25, 2027
This position provides coverage for an incumbent who is currently on leave.

Salary
Wage per hour $31.03 per hour. This is a bargaining unit position, in the Professional Employees Association.

Summary

St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.

St. Margaret's School is seeking energetic, self-directed Educational Assistant, specializing in Humanities and Social Sciences to provide educational support to students. They will work collaboratively with the Learning Support Coordinator, Enrichment Specialists, classroom teachers and other staff in providing this assistance.

Required Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting the classroom teachers in the delivery of the curriculum to students, includes adapting or modifying curriculum methods and strategies.
  • Support a variety of learners including students with learning exceptionalities, challenges with mental health, executive functioning, and medical and personal care needs.
  • Organizing with learning support teachers and classroom teachers, specific activities and lessons that address the academic, social, and emotional diversity within a classroom.
  • Supporting individual students and groups of students within the classroom environment.
  • Attending weekly learning support meetings and school activities.
  • Regular communication and interaction with teachers, learning support staff and the Directors (or designate).
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience

  • Minimum two years of post-secondary training as an Education Assistant or equivalent.
  • Specialization in the field of Special Education is an asset.
  • Specific post-secondary courses in child or adolescent development, behaviour management or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years proven experience and excellence in co-planning and assisting with lessons in a classroom.
  • An awareness and understanding of the BC curriculum.
