The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a critical role in supporting Group 1 Automotive's commitment to providing a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace across its dealership and collision center operations. Serving as a trusted field partner to Regional EHS Managers, this position supports theexecution of environmental, health, and safety programs while promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
Working closely with dealership leadership and operational teams, the EHS Specialist provides hands-on support for safety initiatives, employee training, incident management, regulatory compliance, audits, and recordkeeping. This role serves as a visible presence in the field, helping ensure consistent application of EHS programs, strengthening employee engagement, and identifying opportunities to continuously improve workplace safety.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys building relationships and supporting multiple locations in a fast-paced retail environment. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and a passion for creating safe workplaces through education, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Field-Level Support – Assist Regional EHS Managers with on-site audits, training, and safety campaigns. Partner with site personnel at assigned dealerships to support effective implementation of EHS programs
- Recordkeeping – Maintain OSHA logs, incident records, training rosters, and audit tracking tools.
- System Support – Enter and update safety data in reporting systems; assist with user management and troubleshooting.
- Communication – Deliver safety newsletters, posters, and campaign materials across dealership teams, helping keep safety top-of-mind and promoting ongoing engagement. Scheduling – Coordinate safety meetings, training sessions, and onboarding events across regions.
- Incident Management – Assist in the incident investigation process. Ensure timely upload of incident reports, thorough documentation of investigations, and accurate filing of all required reports. Assist in the management of workers’ compensation cases.
- General EHS Support – Assist Regional EHS Managers and the EHS team with EHS related tasks, coordination, and day-to-day support activities through dealership support, compliance initiatives, safety projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Represent management in site level EHS meetings and facilitate collaboration between dealer team and EHS team.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, bachelor’s preferred.
- 5+ years of field experience, preferably in safety, training, compliance, or operations.
- Ability to build relationships and influence operational leaders in a field environment
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; experience with EHS or LMS systems a plus.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability implementing EHS programs independently across multiple sites
- Ability to work independently, travel regionally 75% of the time, and manage multiple priorities.
The salary range for this role is $60,000-$75,000. Salary may vary depending on experience.
