Summary

Hardwire is seeking a mission-driven Electrical Engineer / Controls Technician to join our team. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement electrical and control systems that support the manufacturing of life-saving ballistic solutions. This position blends engineering design with hands-on technical execution — ideal for individuals with strong electrical and controls experience or early-career engineers eager to grow in a dynamic manufacturing environment.


Position Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, integration, and operation of Hardwire’s custom production equipment and systems.
  • Provide installation of electrical systems and components, collaborating with the mechanical team to conduct testing, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Configure and load software to HMI, PLC, VFD, and servo systems.
  • Evaluate and improve control systems, products, and processes through applied research, testing, and operator feedback.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for electrical component assembly.
  • Assure product quality by designing and performing electrical testing methods; confirm compliance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state electrical and safety regulations.
  • Keep equipment operational by following manufacturers’ instructions and established preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in drafting technical documentation such as design specifications, test plans, and reports.
  • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Stay current on industry trends and advancements in electrical engineering and control systems.



Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR five (5) years of relevant work experience in manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, VFD motor drives, HMI systems, vision systems, and temperature control systems.
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems.
  • Ability to construct industrial electrical panels and control systems using schematics and diagrams.
  • Understanding of relay logic, motor controls, forward/reversing circuits, and HVAC electrical systems and controls.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Electrical ladder logic and PLC & HMI programming experience (entry-level exposure acceptable; 5+ years preferred for senior-level applicants).
  • Strong technical knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware/software, and industrial design tools (CAD, Visio, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, team-oriented demeanor.
  • Completion and maintenance of required safety trainings (Lock Out/Tag Out, Powered Industrial Truck, HazCom).


Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
  • PLC experience with Rockwell, Siemens.
  • HMI platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Wonderware, LabView.
  • Robotics experience (ABB, Fanuc, Kuka).
  • Flowchart design with Visio.
  • FAT and SAT experience; ability to perform start-up and commissioning.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Work Environment

Work performed in a combination of manufacturing and office environment. Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils.
