Electro-Technical Officer

  • Responsible for the efficient maintenance, condition and upkeep of all electrical equipment, appliances, and fittings onboard under his charge.
  • Keep day-to-day record of all work carried out and in connection with the electrical equipment, machinery, and lighting onboard.
  • Plan preventive maintenance of all items of work, submit the same to the Chief Engineer for approval and thereafter carry out repairs and maintenance.
  • To ensure safe installation, overhauling, and repair of electrical work, maintain a six-monthly megger reading record of all power and lighting circuits, main and auxiliary machinery, impressed anodes, and individual motors.
  • To ensure emergency lighting systems, batteries or emergency generators are maintained in good working condition and available for immediate use.
  • To liaise closely with all department heads in order to ascertain the full requirements of the ship and ensure that the ship is maintained electrically in full operational order.
  • To maintain close liaison with the Chief Engineer/Chief Officer on the day-to-day work requirement of the Engine/Deck Department.
  • To keep careful account of all electrical spare gear and consumable stores, ensuring that their distribution, stowage, labelling, accounting, and security are efficiently managed.
  • To ensure that stock levels are maintained at all times.
