Position Overview:

The ED Sanding Operator is responsible for surface inspection and manual correction of vehicle bodies after the Electrodeposition (ED) process. The role ensures removal of surface defects and achieves required surface smoothness before primer application, in compliance with quality standards and safety requirements. This position directly supports first-pass yield improvement, appearance quality, and customer satisfaction by ensuring ED-coated bodies meet defined preparation standards for subsequent paint processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform visual and tactile inspection of ED-coated bodies for surface defects.

• Identify defects such as: ED roughness, ED Dust, ED run sags, or excessive film. Mark defects according to defined quality guidelines

• Carry out manual sanding of ED surfaces using approved abrasive papers and tools.

• Ensure correct grit sequence, sanding pressure, and sanding area control.

• Avoid damage to ED film thickness, edges, sharp corners, and welded joints.

• Rework only within defined rework limits and according to SOPs.

• Ensure smooth, defect-free surface prepared for primer application.

• Ensure sanding quality meets internal quality standards and OEM paint specifications.

• Escalate abnormal defects beyond rework capability to Team Leader or Quality.

• Support quality audits and containment activities.

• Maintain zero over-sanding or unnecessary rework.

• Strictly follow safety rules related to sanding operations and paint shop environment.

• Use required PPE including gloves, masks, eye protection, and safety shoes. Follow ergonomic guidelines and safe work practices.

• Maintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness at the work area.

• Dispose of sanding waste and materials according to environmental procedures. Use sanding tools, blocks, and consumables properly and safely.

• Inspect tools before use and report damaged equipment.

• Maintain tools in clean, usable condition.

• Support minor maintenance activities as instructed.

• Achieve assigned production targets without compromising quality.

• Follow standard work instructions and takt time requirements.

• Participate in shift handover communication.

• Support continuous improvement and 5S activities in the sanding area.

Skills:

• Understanding of ED coating characteristics and surface quality requirements Ability to identify and classify surface defects Knowledge of sanding materials, grit selection, and sanding techniques

• Good hand skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow work instructions and quality standards

• Quality-focused and disciplined work attitude

• Ability to work in a production-line environment

• Good teamwork and communication skills

• Willingness to follow safety and shop-floor rules

• Physical stamina for manual work

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school certificate or technical diploma preferred / Other Certification

• 1-2 years' experience in automotive paint shop or surface preparation operations

• Experience in ED sanding, primer sanding, or body surface preparation is an advantage

• Basic understanding of safety practices in paint shop operations

• Willingness to work in shifts and follow production schedules
