Role description\:

You will play a key role in the development of high-integrity electronic systems, working across the full engineering lifecycle - from early concept through to integration, testing, and in-service support.

This role combines hands-on electronics design with technical leadership, particularly in FPGA (VHDL) and system/subsystem-level integration. You will provide design authority within your area of expertise, ensuring that designs are technically sound, meet required standards, and are supported by evidence for safety, compliance, and performance.

You will guide design decisions, support engineering reviews, and maintain technical oversight across the lifecycle, including technology upgrades and obsolescence management. You will also work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support integration, problem-solving, and delivery across multiple projects.

Core duties\:

  • Lead the design and development of electronic subsystems/systems from concept through to service release and ongoing support, providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers
  • Apply strong experience in component-level electronic design using Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools, supporting both new designs for production and existing products, including obsolescence management and technology upgrades
  • Design and analyse electronic circuits, including analogue-to-digital (ADC/DAC) conversion and integration, power supply design and decoupling, and support EMC-compliant subsystem and PCB development
  • Ensure designs meet safety and regulatory requirements, particularly in high power or high voltage environments
  • Support design proving, system integration, and testing, including investigation and resolution of technical issues and defects
  • Produce clear technical documentation and evidence to demonstrate safety, compliance, and overall fitness for purpose, drawing on knowledge of FPGA design, power electronics, and test and measurement techniques

Essential skills\:

  • Proven experience leading electronic hardware design from concept through to release and in service support
  • Strong technical leadership capability, including mentoring engineers and providing design authority
  • Significant experience in design verification, integration, defect resolution, and acceptance evidence
  • Solid understanding of product safety and integrity, and power electronics and power supply considerations
  • Experience working with PCB designers on EMC aware layout, component selection, and obsolescence management
  • FPGA design and implementation
  • You’ll hold a degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject

The Archerfish Team\:

The Underwater electronics team is responsible for the full lifecycle of electronics - from concept, design and manufacture through to production and in-service support. This includes ensuring long-term capability through obsolescence management, technology insertion, and continuous improvement of system and subsystem performance.

This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging systems with real-world impact, alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative and supportive team environment.
