Emergency Room Physician Responsibilities
- Evaluate, triage, assess, and treat patients presenting with acute and emergent conditions
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and gather detailed patient histories
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies
- Provide emergency and critical care treatment, including stabilization and resuscitation
- Manage patient disposition including admission, transfer, or discharge
- Perform procedures including:
- Laceration repair, wound care
- Splinting and fracture stabilization
- Incision and drainage
- Procedural sedation and regional anesthesia
- Lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, arthrocentesis
- Airway management, venous and arterial access
- Administer medications and develop treatment plans
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment, and follow-up care
- Document patient encounters accurately in accordance with regulatory standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA standards
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required
- Completion of an accredited residency program (minimum 3 years)
- Active Michigan medical license required
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work in a high-acuity environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
