Job Summary: The Energy Marshal oversees all energy isolation activities, ensuring compliance with both Alston and the Owner’s safety requirements. They will also assist with commissioning activities on large-scale data center construction projects. This role is critical to ensure that all energy systems are designed, installed, and operated in accordance with project specifications, sustainability goals, and industry best practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include:
The Energy Marshal will be primarily involved with performing the following duties and responsibilities.
Energy Compliance & Oversight
- Oversee and enforce compliance with energy-related standards throughout all phases of construction.
- Review and approve all energy-related Methods of Procedure (MOPs) in alignment with the site-specific energy plan.
- Evaluate and approve subcontractor energy isolation and control strategies.
- Develop and implement site-specific energy isolation procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with owner requirements, NEC, ASHRAE standards, and all applicable local energy codes.
Commissioning Support
- Partner with the commissioning team to validate the performance and reliability of energy systems.
- Review and verify completion of installation checklists for HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Lead and coordinate energization activities, ensuring strict adherence to NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and all safety protocols.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive records of energy-related inspections, observations, and corrective actions.
- Provide routine reporting to project stakeholders on compliance status and energy performance metrics.
- Facilitate energy-focused meetings, site walkthroughs, and coordination sessions during construction and commissioning phases.
Education, Experience, and Licensing/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in either electrical, Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP construction and commissioning, with at least 2 years in mission-critical environments.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction safety, electrical systems, or commissioning support.
- Ability to read a one-line diagram and identify areas for energy isolation.
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure and mission-critical systems.
