The Engine Cadet is to undertakes onboard training to gain practical experience as part of an education program. Work in an organized rotation through the various technical departments; engine room watch standing; day worker assignments; electrical; and refrigeration under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, Staff Chief and 1st Engineer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Able to follow instructions provided by the First Engineer.
- Cadet is a Future Engineering Officer in training and should be using their time onboard to learn and prepare for a permanent assignment.
- Obligatory work performance and assistance with other team members starting from the Third Engineer; and rotating to each 2nd Engineer including watch standing in the ECR.
- Able to assist in the maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in typing and computer software skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Fidelio, AS400, Micros) are required.
- The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
EDUCATION
- Candidate must be actively enrolled in a Maritime Education Curriculum from an accredited maritime educational institution.
- Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.
